I am interested in becoming a DJ. I don't know where to start though.. I bought FL studio to make cool techno music but what are all the equipment that I need? Do I just need a midi board or what? My cousin was a DJ but that was way back in the day with records and I just don't know what I need to do.
DJ's spin records you are talking about producing which is different
DJ's spin records you are talking about producing which is different
This. I'm still amazed at how many people don't know the difference.
Well to cut the guy some clack, lots of producers are also DJ's, and vice versa.
A lot of journalists also play the guitar, that doesn't mean it's the same
Oh well sorry for my ignorance, I just want to be a producer then
Oh well sorry for my ignorance, I just want to be a producer then
Alright, well, we can help you with that. I can only suggest one program from experience and reputation. It's up to you to decide which one (there's a few other big ones out there you might wanna take a look at) you want to start using. Google and see if you can find any producing forums and register. Lurk and read for awhile, and then when you have a question, just post and hope somebody helps you.
Oh well sorry for my ignorance, I just want to be a producer then
I have a korg k25 keyboard, and it works really well with reason 3.0.
I used Fruity Loops for a while. Its really neat, and easy to use. Its only for PC though :(. If you really are interested in music, get a mac. Also download lots of VST's (Virtual Studio Technology). Learning terminology will get you far too, at first I didn't know what the hell I was reading in Blogs and in tutorials. I did some research online. If you want some links just PM me, I got you dude. Also like what type of genre do you want to produce??
Fruity loops is nice for simple type music but it has nothing on real analogue synths imo.
Fruity loops is nice for simple type music but it has nothing on real analogue synths imo.
In the right hands Fruity loops can do everything (apart from making the music for you silly)
Fruity loops is nice for simple type music but it has nothing on real analogue synths imo.
real analog synths cost thousands though cos they are vintage gear [editline]06:58PM[/editline] plus most soft synths these days sound just as good as hardware
real analog synths cost thousands though cos they are vintage gear [editline]06:58PM[/editline] plus most soft synths these days sound just as good as hardware
So many programs are pirated now though..
Fruity loops is nice for simple type music but it has nothing on real analogue synths imo.
Pfff. One Nord Lead please.
In the right hands Fruity loops can do everything (apart from making the music for you silly)
Okay, but all I seem to hear made in fruity loops is those crappy loops in newgrounds.
Okay, but all I seem to hear made in fruity loops is those crappy loops in newgrounds.
cos they are made by noobs who know fuck all about dance music production or synthesis
Not all DJ's spin records, a lot of DJ's (especially the company I work for) use artificial 'record like' pads to spin MP3's from iPods etc.
Not all DJ's spin records, a lot of DJ's (especially the company I work for) use artificial 'record like' pads to spin MP3's from iPods etc.
still called spinning records
still called spinning records
Yup.
cos they are made by noobs who know fuck all about dance music production or synthesis
I'm thinking about buying FL studio, and I would really like to know if it is capable of creating professional sounding tracks and can be a steady replacement for an analogue synth. Can someone tell me if it really is worth buying?
Get FL Studio. Works wonders.
Fruity loops is nice for simple type music but it has nothing on real analogue synths imo.
Fruity Loops is a sequencer...hello? Atleast try and make it sound like you know what you're talking about.

About how mister SenorJose said FL Studio is "nice for simple type music but it has nothing on real analogue synths imo". As in, the fucktard is implying that FL Studio can be compared to a synthesizer. A sequencer, compared to a synthesizer. For the slow: It's two complete different things. The one is used to actually create a track/loops and put everything together, the other just to create sounds. He's comparing apples with pears. indeed what an idiot (User was banned for this post ("Flaming" - Perfumly))
indeed what an idiot
wow you guys are nice, what I was thinking about was the software synths that come with FL Studio, attacking people because of their ignorance doesn't help anyone, it just makes you look like a prick.
makes me look smart, which I could say I am when it comes to this subject
makes me look smart, which I could say I am when it comes to this subject
Okay but it's not nice to rub it in my face.
wow you guys are nice, what I was thinking about was the software synths that come with FL Studio, attacking people because of their ignorance doesn't help anyone, it just makes you look like a prick.
The software synths you get with it depend on what version of FL Studio you buy (Producer edition, Studio etc.). Some are pretty crappy I agree, but don't underestimate the power of some of them just because they're software. Even 3xOsc, which may look crappy and simple at first, has a lot of hidden features to create some pretty sharp and tight leads and basses with it. I'm sorry I attacked you, I'm just kinda jumpy like that. :)
Not all DJ's spin records, a lot of DJ's (especially the company I work for) use artificial 'record like' pads to spin MP3's from iPods etc.
Traktor. I quite like Traktor for doing this, only I don't use it from my iPod, just my music library as a collective. I would vouch for it.
