What is your suggestion this build. Also, recommend both a nVidia and ATI card.
So you need a CPU, a GPU, and anything else? and whats your budget? Are you salvaging a hard drive or anything like that? Edit: Also, what are you going to be doing with the computer. I'm just getting all the basics covered before people try spam asking this stuff.
Gaming rig. I have a 500GB Harddrive. This my current rig. AMD Athlon 7750 Black Edition 2.71 GHZ DualCore ECS GeForce6100PM-M2 2 GB DDR RAM XFX GeForce 9600 GSO 768 VRAM WD 160 HardDrive (Partitioned 20GB) WD 500 HardDrive HP DVD Writer. I want something that will be able to play at Grand Theft Auto 4. I can run it now, but I get anywhere between 20-30 FPS and 15-30 while the street lights come on or cars starts to build up.
Someone correct me if i'm wrong but the most cost effective CPU for gaming would be the i5-750 right? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115215&cm_re=i5_750-_-19-115-215-_-Product as for the GPU for nvidia i'd go with http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130562 EVGA 460 (fermi) and it comes with free just cause 2 if you don't have it already and it has free shipping till 8/31 Edit: Each of those are 200 dollars so if thats all you need along with what you currently have it will put your grand total to about 900 dollars
Why would you want both a nVidia recommendation and an ATi one?
Why would you want both a nVidia recommendation and an ATi one?
Probably so he can look up benchmarks for the cards and make his decision based off of that.
Why the fuck do you buy a 750W PSU? Go with 500-550W like Antec TruePower New. No need to spend that much for this component.
Probably so he can look up benchmarks for the cards and make his decision based off of that.
This. ADT, you mean this? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371020&cm_re=Antec_TruePower-_-17-371-020-_-Product
I have the same power supply for much less, i built my computer when i wasn't as part savvy as i am now, the good part about it is that that is one thing i can salvage when i do build another computer.
You could also get a more budget case and buy yourself a better motherboard.
Recommendation?
I'd recommend this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811129066&cm_re=antec_300-_-11-129-066-_-Product
What about this for a nVidia. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130562 and this for an ATI? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150447 and this for a CPU http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115215
The GTX 460 is a good card, I'd go for the 5850 on the ATI side though. And the i5-750 is pretty much the best cpu for gaming right now.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103644&cm_re=AMD_Phenom-_-19-103-644-_-Product Maybe thius Mobo http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131595 Might wind of getting a Barebone though.=/

Also, don't get a barebone, picking all the parts is cheaper. Another thing, get the CM690 II case and save the $50. There's not much of a difference except the 690 II doesn't have a built-in fan controller or vented side. You can buy a window for it though, only $25. As for the video card, get the GTX470.
How's this? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103877&cm_re=Phenom_X4-_-19-103-877-_-Product

Plus you should really get a Phenom 955 for gaming. EDIT: Get this combo http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.430449
That's a bit much as I only have 300 right now.=/ Actually... Which this power supply and ram http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371020 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231277 It's only 448.98. Thanks, have a heart! Would I be able to play Just Cause 2 with that GFX card? Is this a good power supply? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817341022
No. Anything with the word 'Fatal1ty" on it is generally shit. This is much better for exactly the same price. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817341017&cm_re=modxstream-_-17-341-017-_-Product
Thank you.
Unless you're getting a better video card like the GTX460 sometime soon, the PSU is overkill. Not to mention you should get a GTX460 or better if you want to play Just Cause 2.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboBundleDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.432409 How's this combo? Also. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IjpdNVO6yEI I think the 980 GTX will work fine. I can play GTA4 on my 9600 GSO (&68cram) and 2.71 Dual Core Processor.=/ Granted my avarge FPS is about 15-30. But hey, it plays. I could record a video if you want.
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=6321553&CatId=4296 How's this for a mobo?
