Revolutionary discovery means world may not run out of crud

Kutcherov had recently proven that hydrocarbons can be created out of water, calcium carbonate and iron, and this means that crude oil is a sustainable, renewable resource, according to reports. However, this discovery does not mean that emissions from the combustion of hydrocarbons do not create climate change.

Pretty cool, hopefully it'll lead to less (Mandatory proverbial stab at America)
"whew, now we don't have to waste our time on pussy alternative fuels"
cool
I'm sort of happy and sort of not, the pressure of losing it all was a big boost to the research into renewable and environmentally friendly energy. If we just have all the supplies we want, there's not going to be much incentive for companies to make the difficult transition.
It's sort of like a discovery that disproves a link between smoking and lung cancer. People would still be out of breath all the time and addicted, but the big threat is gone so they're less likely to give up.
I can just imagine a simultaneous "Goddamn!" going out from all the environmentalists.
It's not renewable because calcium carbonate and iron do not magically drop back out of the sky. Eventually all of it on the land would be used.

Hydrocarbons are not composed of either of those.

Doesn't matter. Whatever resource used will still run out eventually.
I hope this is true so I can laugh at my parents.
what the fuck is 'crude'
what the fuck is 'crude'
Crude oil I'd guess.
I hope this isn't true. Alternate energy research would slow down a lot.

Even if it was true, combustion is a primitive inefficient means of producing mechanical energy that damages our body and the environment. Something like this would not stop the research of clean, renewable and efficient technology.
Poor Crude. :( Kikka, how can you not be emotional over this?
On-Topic: I'd rather have that they just stopped fucking around with oil and shit and switch to more enviroment friendly energy sources.
(Gogog hippy rainbows)
This is good to keep our cars running until we find a better alternate energy source.
The oil companies will not like this one bit. If crude oil becomes cheap to manufacture in the future, I can quickly see oil companies beginning to talk about the dangers of emissions and then moving over to other more environmentally-friendly (and expensive) fuels. They'll purposely kill the oil market so they can sustain their profits.
I still think either electricity or hydrogen would be better.
not to mention more efficient.

Those materials could be catalysts.
Calcium carbonate can be created from CO2 and calcium oxide.

Yeah right... like people generating their own electricity free from the sun is going to give them a lot of profit.

Hydrogen. Cold fusion research. Alternative energy sources aren't limited to solar panels and wind turbines, I don't know why people think this.

well if your going to get into research, the thing most likely to work would be vacuum energy research imo.

sorry but the source of iron on earth was/is late-stage fusion by very large stars and they near the end of their life-cycle
so yes, iron does magically drop from the sky

Do go on.
Who the hell sponsored this?
Snip-muthafuckers

Do you have a car?
This hasn't been applied to real life yet, so I'm not going to take it seriously till they can get it mass-produced.

NO.
Airborne wind turbines are where the money's at baby. Seriously, there's enough wind energy in the Midwest that if you plant a few thousand of these there you'll light the entire forty-eight.
what is vacuum energy anyway?
