I like how valve have essentially (with this and the portal 2 map tool) made modding more friendly to the masses. And steam workshop/community insures only quality contributions see the light of day.

I still remember Skin of the week on CSNation back when Counter Strike was early Beta still, and some of those modelers and skinners were top notch. Almost nothing comes out anymore that compares. Very rarely

And Source mod support in general. These new tools here may be easier to use but in the process of making them available Valve has broken or disabled some far more powerful ones that allowed for far more advanced modding.

Having absolutely everyone able to make their own variation of an M4 with desert camo is kinda nice, but it's not exactly as cool as having a couple dozen people able to say: replace the M249 with a fully custom-made M60.
