Windows 10 Permissions Disaster. Can't Open Anything
1 replies, posted
Okay long story short, after a long frustrating battle with folder permission restrictions, I attempted to make my user account the owner of my entire C: drive. A whole lot of windows files didn't like that, so all things windows stopped working save for explorer. Even the start menu broke. For the record, I'm the only account on my computer, I'm not trying to circumvent some company restrictions or anything. So after a number of failed attempts to fix this problem (system restore, methods found online, etc.) I just restored Windows and kept my files.
Here's where the problem is. Everything would be fine, but I can't open a single one of my old files. Not from my desktop, documents, or wherever. So even when I just try to open a picture, I get this accursed message:

And it's driving me insane.
Even that very image will not open for me, and I made it after reset. So my guess is this has something to do with the Desktop folder, which I have tried to alter the security settings of, yet I still can't open anything.
I'm at an absolute loss for what to do. I've researched the problem, and most of the time it is solved by either unblocking the file or disabling overreactive virus protection. I tried opening files before I even had virus protection and I have unblocked the files, no dice.
What the hell do I do?
Welp, nevermind. My problem mysteriously disappeared today. I suppose this thread could be closed now.
