One show they're not contemplating? The ill-fated cargasm, Top Gear USA. Was the pilot so horrendous it's unwatchable? We've got $5,000 to find out. The BBC's Top Gear may be one of the world's most popular shows, but in two attempts at colonization here in North America, it hasn't succeeded. The closest the show's come to reality was a pilot shot with car guy and former "Man Show" host Adam Carolla, racer Tanner Foust and noted interior drapery design consultant Eric Stromer. The pilot, originally slated to air on NBC as a Spring 2009 replacement series, was dropped thanks to network President Jeff Zucker's inability to stomach high production costs and because Knight Rider was just so completely terrible. All we know is we want to see it and with Zucker now looking down the barrel of a one hour-per-night gunshot-like hole in his schedule thanks to his decision to cost-cut with an unfunny car guy, we're wondering why he's not looking at Top Gear USA to fill the hole. You think Conan's pissed? Ha! Hell hath no fury like the teeming car-loving fans of Top Gear. So what happened? Did NBC — as we'd once heard — sell the rights to someone like Discovery or the History Channel? Or perhaps, was the pilot just absolutely horrendous? There's only one way to find out — watch it ourselves. We know someone out there must have it. So we're willing to pay $5,000 to the first person who can provide us with a full copy of the unaired Carolla/Foust/Stromer NBC pilot of Top Gear USA. There are some ground rules: Our standard contest rules apply. We expect you to stay within the bounds of the law. We reserve the right to limit, or restrict upon notice, participation in the Contest to any person at any time for any reason. Void where prohibited. So who's in? I'd love to see one of my favorite celebrities (Carolla) try out something like Top Gear. I doubt it'll be bad, because, he knows how to present. I watched the Man Show, alot. I also listened to his morning talk show on this Las Vegas local station every weekday on my way to school. I really really hope they find it.
Looks so.. American?
But I like the british-ness of Top Gear

I really love Top Gear with all my heart. But as seen here from one of Top Gear America's filmers, it did look properly good.
Why do they need a US version? Why not just show the UK one if it's so popular...
Why do they need a US version? Why not just show the UK one if it's so popular...
Might as well scrap the Russian and Australian ones too. :geno:
What the fuck are they doing?
Why do they need a US version? Why not just show the UK one if it's so popular...
Because America like to take things like movies and Tv series and make their own (awful) version
Can't they just watch Jeremy Clarkson?
Because America like to take things like movies and Tv series and make their own (awful) version
The British Broadcasting Corporation was behind it thank you very much. Not to mention, this isn't a fucking horror movie, this is Top Gear. Kindly note that Australia and Russia have their own Top Gear's. Also, it was cancelled, so stop whining, it's just the website is giving 5000 USD to whoever can supply them with the pilot.
Can't they just watch Jeremy Clarkson?
No because he's a nob head.
No because he's a nob head.
More like, he is brilliantly good. :eng101:
Might as well scrap the Russian and Australian ones too. :geno:
I'm just afraid you guys will Americanise it too much, make it what you want it to be not what it is. [editline]02:22PM[/editline]
What the fuck are they doing?
Offering 5000 dollars for a pilot of the scrapped American version of Top Gear.
Might as well give up. Top Gear in the UK is the only Top Gear worth watching, and the reason is the Format fits the three hosts perfectly, and the three hosts compliment each other perfectly, you won't be able to recreate it They're like the modern three stooges, with fast cars
As much as id welcome this show, it would never be able to replace the original. I doubt there is any 3 guys in the world like Clarkson, May and Hammond that could recreate the original Top Gear. Not to mention NBC wouldn't be able to put nearly as much funding into the show as the BBC has been able to. I would watch the pilot. But I wouldn't go into it with high hopes of anything.

Australian TG has their own Aussie stuff, and their Aussie jokes, and their Aussie everything. Same with Russian. And was suppose to be the same for the American. I'd like to watch it, I know it wouldn't be as glorious as British Top Gear, but, it'd still be better than a lot of stuff on TV.
A lot of the allusions made on Top Gear probably fly over most American's heads (as well as mine), so a US version would make sense if they could keep the spirit of the show the same. Not to mention the fact that different markets = different cars and pricing = the need for different reviews.
But.. no more Americans are fat jokes? :saddowns:
Adam Carolla is not funny at all. Atleast Top Gear UK the guys know their cars. Carolla is probably driving around in a mother fucking chevy cavalier as we speak
How about you just fucking air Top Gear UK?
Why do they need a US version? Why not just show the UK one if it's so popular...
Because in the UK version Jeremy Clarkson often makes jokes of American cars, so they have their own version of the show :v:
Because in the UK version Jeremy Clarkson often makes jokes of American cars, so they have their own version of the show :v:
With good reason though.
Why do they need a US version? Why not just show the UK one if it's so popular...
Because BBC america cost alot more money to get every month. I watch episodes online instead. [editline]12:46PM[/editline]
Because America like to take things like movies and Tv series and make their own (awful) version
Heyyyyyyy, Iron Chef America is a pretty good american remake.
Their jokes about american cars are right on the money tho'. Hey look at my humm.. damn it, it just broke again.
UK Top Gear is Best Top Gear. And that's comiing from an American.
Why do they need a US version? Why not just show the UK one if it's so popular...
Because the Tv executives in our country are dimwitted and don't know alot. Just take Conan for example. Only a mentally retarded person like them would fire him.
No, just no. The cast from the man show just did jokes, none of it was serious. Plus they both suck arse. Most Americans like the British top gear anyway. They're going to end up ruining the fucking name.
What are they doing The Australian version was shit enough. Why can't they learn from that
There can only be one Top Gear and that's the Top Gear with the funny sounding British people. The Australians and Russians can fuck themselves and if a US version is made I'll firebomb somebody.
Eww they're making an American version?
