He was 90. Jaruzelski died on Sunday just days before Poland marked 25 years since the crucial parliamentary election in which Poles voted against the country's communist rulers and in support of the Solidarity freedom movement that soon formed Poland's first democratic government in over four decades.
http://www.theguardian.com/world/2014/may/25/wojciech-jaruzelski-poland-communist-leader-dies
He looks like Popeye. A very old Popeye.
All he needed was a can of spinach and kielbasa!

From reading histories of the time, it always sounded to me like he was one of those old guys who never want to admit times change. He was right in the middle of history in the making, and instead of going with the flow he tried to turn the clock back.
So fucking what. I lost my dad 2 weeks ago,he was an entertainer,he played all over the world for people who enjoyed his music and liked a good laugh as he was also an incredible comedian! and i'm not saying this only because he was my dad,but he was also one of the kindest most generous human beings to ever walk the planet! But did anyone give a shit when he passed...no but some polish dude who no one really cared about goes all over the news. So i'm sorry to any polish people on here I mean no offence but this shit just pisses me off. Being as that dude got a picture on this thread heres my dad!! He sounds like great guy. RIP
FP I'll save you lots and lots of discussion: He was for the most part a bad person.
So he was more Bluto than Popeye?
I am sorry that you feel this way. He sounds like great guy. RIP
Especially in comparison to evil communist Popeye.
Because of that fucker instead of children cartoons he took up the TV to declare the martial law in 1981 (though it's debatable if it was good or bad, in 1980 Solidarity was formed, some say he tried to destroy it, some say it was to avoid a Soviet intervention)
So he was more Bluto than Popeye?
If bluto oppressed democracy and ordered to murder protesters, yeah.

I am in no way a Jaruzelski's apologist, but that you're doing right now is pretty immature IMO
Because of that fucker instead of children cartoons he took up the TV to declare the martial law in 1981 (though it's debatable if it was good or bad, in 1980 Solidarity was formed, some say he tried to destroy it, some say it was to avoid a Soviet intervention)
Hindsight is 20/20. The Soviets DID invade countries, like Hungary, that tried to escape the Soviet bloc. So it is believable to think they might have done the same to Poland. Because of that, I wouldn't consider him evil for cracking down. However, I think what separates a great man from an average man is the great man has the balls to do what's right even when it's most dangerous. This guy took the easy way, a crackdown, instead of standing with Solidarity.
Slowly but surely all of those twisted, wretched men are dying - in 20-30 years, what the Soviet Union did to Eastern Europe will be a distant memory.
