Just a quick question, im getting an i5 2500k soon and was wondering if i would need to buy a new heatsink rather than the default one? i was planning to overclock to around 4.5ghz
yeah 4,5 GHz would neeed a new heatsink, something like noctua d14 or corsair H60
Thanks ;) im gonna get the cooler master hyper212 plus
I dont think you can reach 4.5GHz on that cooler
usually 2500k runs at 4.5GHz with scythe mugen or noctua d14

A 212 will help you overclock but doesn't have enough cooling power for something that high I don't think.
I'm using a hyper 212+ and mines at 4.5GHz, idles at about 36c, goes up to around 45-50c when I'm running Prime95.
I read somewhere you can get to like 4.8GHz on stock cooling and it only gets to the high 70s. Not like you would want it in the high 70s, the cooler the better; but a Hyper 212+ should be fine

If you're overclocking an i5 2500k then you need to have the proper motherboard chipset. A P67 or a Z68 is a must for overclocking with Sandybridge K series processors.

You can easily reach 4.5GHZ just by bumping up the multiplier. What you will need is proper adequate cooling in order for the CPU to remain at safe temperatures especially when increasing the voltage core.
You'd think an i5 2500k would be powerful enough. :rolleye:
4.5GHz of goodness
Another quickie on OCing. got a 550BE Unlocked and OC'd to 3.5. should i go higher? its cooled by a Zalman CNPS5x.
