Hasan could become the first U.S. soldier executed in more than half a century
FORT HOOD, Texas — A military court on Wednesday sentenced Nidal Hasan to death for the 2009 shooting rampage at Fort Hood, giving the U.S. Army psychiatrist a path to the martyrdom he seemed to want in the attack on unarmed fellow soldiers. Hasan could become the first U.S. soldier executed in more than half a century. But because the military justice system requires a lengthy appeals process, years or even decades could pass before he is put to death. [...] The same jurors who convicted Hasan last week had two options: agree unanimously that Hasan should die or watch the 42-year-old get an automatic sentence of life in prison with no chance of parole. [...] The attack ended only when Hasan was shot in the back by an officer responding to the shooting. Hasan is now paralyzed from the waist down. Death sentences are rare in the military, which has just five other prisoners on death row. The cases trigger a long appeals process. And the president must give final authorization before any service member is executed. No U.S. soldier has been executed since 1961.
His "No Defense" stuff worked for him. He doesn't fucking deserve death. Way to painless for the damage he's done to his fellow man, and their families.
He doesn't fucking deserve death. Way to painless for the damage he's done to his fellow man, and their families.
Knowing our American legal system, he's got at least 20 years before he gets strapped down. At least he's paralyzed because of his actions and he'll have to deal with that for quite a while before he gets his real punishment.
Call me a barbarian, cruel, living in the dark ages, whatever. He killed a huge amount of people and this is exactly what he deserves. Anything less would have been very disappointing.
Exactly what will executing him solve?
Exactly what will executing him solve?
"Justice"

May be sooner than that. [editline]28th August 2013[/editline]
Call me a barbarian, cruel, living in the dark ages, whatever. Calling someone unintelligent because they dont agree with your views is a stupid thing to say

Considering Robert Bales murdered more afghan civilians out of pure sadism.
"Justice"
I'd love to bring out the Gandhi quotes but I know it serves no purpose.

[editline]28th August 2013[/editline] Instead, I'll simply call you unintelligent.
For starters, you of all people have no right to question the intelligence of other people, considering your track record. Secondly, the right to due process cannot be modified or sped up simply because it's in the hands of a military court. He has decades to live before we take away that right. Besides, it's the equivalent of killing an enemy combatant, he's not an average criminal, he's a traitor.
Exactly what will executing him solve?
Well if we could do it faster, like gun to the head, we'd at least save the cost of him being in prison.
Exactly what will executing him solve?
Texas' throbbing erection for "justice".
Exactly what will executing him solve?
okay mr moral what would you do
"Justice"
It will also ensure that he won't try to kill anyone else, with his wheelchair. [editline]28th August 2013[/editline]
okay mr moral what would you do
Rehabilitation, oh wait,

He attacked his own soldiers to "protect Islamist insurgents abroad" I would feel bad if this was an act of a mentally unstable person but this betraying your fellow soldiers
He's getting what he wants, martyrdom.
Exactly what will executing him solve?
I think it's closure for the families, knowing that the person that causes them so much pain is gone and isn't coming back to cause more pain. Regardless of whether or not he deserves more or less, this is a way for the families to feel "safe", even if the culprit is in prison, hes still alive and the family has to live with the fact that hes still out there, an unsettling thought even if there is no way of him getting out. Killing him doesn't actually hurt anyone except the person who is being killed, who completely deserves it since he also killed many, it's just the cost that is unneeded, if the cost was fixed then there wouldn't really be any disadvantage to killing the culprit and only allows for peace. This is what I always thought about the death penalty.
creep
So not wanting him to be executed so he actually serves time for killing innocent people is wrong? What. I'd rather have this man sit in a cell, have a long thought of his activities, and possibly in 30 years be rehabilitated. [editline]28th August 2013[/editline]
He's getting what he wants, martyrdom.
Not to mention it's a mockery of our justice system. We have a soldier who kills innocent civilians in a village, and he gets life. This guy kills a bunch of American soldiers on base, and he gets the death sentence. What the hell is this cluster-fuckery?

You know people tend to say some fucked up shit in these threads. Ok nevermind. I don't see at all how not killing someone and making them think about their crimes is cruel at all.
Well, I hope he enjoys becoming a martyr, then.
He's getting what he wants, martyrdom.
Which is one reason we shouldn't kill him.
"An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind."
Only if the entire world is fucking retarded.
Rehabilitation, oh wait,
Tell me, exactly, how do you rehabilitate a Terrorist?
