Ok I have an old laptop from the mid 90's area (win 98 loaded on it) the screens kinda burned out but still functions (enough to see what I'm doing anyway)
I have a bunch of hard drives cables and random other tidbits. Oh and a 60 gig ipod video with dead battery. I want to make sort of a hard drive based stereo system or something to that extent. Any ideas?
Replace that iPod video battery!

Then install Rockbox, which is an alternative firmware for old iPods.

Then install Doom
Ill take the old laptop if you dont need it? What are the specs?
Heres some neat ideas you can do with an old laptop or desktop.
1] Modify the laptop to work in your vehicle. Old tablets work awesome for this so you don't have to use a mouse. A simple inverter will power it up, and let you do your business. I use my phone via Wifi tethering in my car to entertain my passengers.
2] Make something geeky and cool. A good thing to do is make your own router/proxy/all-in-one netbox (don't try this on pre 2006 tech... VMs are hard business for old processors). Or just make a server. Theres tons of tutorials out there to help you out.
3] Donate. There is people out there that can always use a computer. If its in working order, why not donate it to someone in need?
4] Do some massive geek art project. Part collecting has some fun activities you can do. Old PCBs make awesome wall decorations, or setups. I have a shelf demonstrating boards from the mid 80s to the mid 2000s. Even a 80386 still in its original packaging! Hard drives also have some cool things to do with it, open it up.. and show off to all your less-geeky friends what the interior of a hdd looks like.
Be creative.. theres tons of things you can do with old electronics... even revival.
