Ok its christmas as you noticed by the snowflakes floating around Facepunch. And i just got this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115057&cm_re=processor_socket_775-_-19-115-057-_-Product And i thought it would be amazing. But i installed it in my computer, simple matter of remove heatsink and old processor, put in new processor and heatsink and plug computer back in. And it doesnt do anything. The fans spin up and the one small light near the ram on the inside is on. But strangely, the LED on the outside of the case it off, and none of the diagnostic lights on the back panel are on. It sounds like its working but nothing comes up on the screen. It just shows the amber power light on the screen because it is getting no input. Please help me I really want this to work my christmas will basically be fucked if it doesnt.
Is the RAM in correctly? Also what motherboard do you have or if it is a prebuilt what computer is it?
What was the old processor? You may need to update your bios.
Ok SO i put back in the old processor and it works fine. Switched em again, new one doesnt work. switch one more time, old one works. The old processor is simply: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.80Ghz Btw i did read on another page for someone with a similar problem that they might need to update the bios. My Motherboard is: Dell Rev A03 E210882 At least thats a number near the CPU on the mobo so im guessing thats it. And the Bios is A09 I believe.
That motherboard doesn't support Core 2 Quads at all. I doubt it supports Wolfdale series either.
so any suggestions on new mobo then? i only want it to have 1 PCI express slot, 4 DDR2 ram slots, and an LGA 775 processor socket. oh and of course a SATA hard drive plug.
This should do well: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157165&cm_re=lga_775-_-13-157-165-_-Product
looks good but i would prefer 4 ram slots. How about this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131232 it compatable?
And if you want a very capable board: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131232&cm_re=lga_775-_-13-131-232-_-Product I guess you'll be needing a new case as well. You broke my automerge and posted the same motherboard.. Why do you need 4 RAM slots anyway?
Just because it gives me mroe ram. it is a gaming computer. And i dont need a new case because i actualy bought one about a month ago: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Thermaltake+-+Soprano+Mid-Tower+Case+-+Black/8763126.p?id=1203815240653&skuId=8763126&st=soprano&contract_desc=null So that motherboard i mentioned will work alright?
With two ram slots, you could have like 8GB of ram.
Ya but with only two, because of how many i have now, i would end up having 1.5gb at most. Until i get another paycheck to buy more ram. [editline]25th December 2010[/editline] But the point is, both motherboards will work with that processor correct? and both have DDR2 ram slots and a pci express slot?
