Long story short:
Trying to install an extracted ISO of Windows 7 from an external HDD. Tried it from a FAT32 partition on my WD MyBook Studio, I either get "restart with bootable device" or a flashing cursor.
Tried it again with a friends external HDD and I get the same problem.
Any ideas? Burning on to a DVD is not an option.
Use this :

Note that it will format your entire drive.
Can I use a partition?
Why the fuck don't you just burn a DVD?
I don't have a DVD large enough.
Makes sense. Use a flash drive? I don't think an external hard drive is capable of installing windows 7 on a computer, as the hard drive is not considered bootable-from.
Annoyingly enough I don't have one large enough either. I guess my only option is to wait for the DVD to arrive in the post.
Yeah, I think that would be your best bet.
The Bios has to be able to support USB booting, and the flash drive/USB HD has to have information in the bootsector. Just coping files from the Win7 DVD won't work.
Well that's what I was told to do.
