• Something you want to know about the USMC/Military?

Hello. I'll start by saying I'm kinda bored. I wanted to make some simple use of my time and I thought to myself, "Hey, I'm a Marine, and there's lots out there that have questions about our Corps, why not kill some time and answer any questions people got for me?", what better place (kinda?)! My BIO: -I'm 21 -I'm about to graduate ITB, will be checking into my Unit within 2 weeks. -I graduated Bootcamp in November as the "Company Honorman" @ MCRD, San Diego. -I am an E-3 -My MOS is 0311 (oorah) -I still have absolutely NO idea if I'm making my beloved Corps a career. If you have other general questions about our military, I will do my best to answer your questions and I will let you know if I'm uncertain about my answers instead of making shit up to make myself look edumikated.
how many dirty muslims do you kill in a day But really, do you think you made the right choice with joining the Military? Do you wish you went down another path?
How realistic do you think Generation Kill is in regards to how combat soldiers and officers act? It may be difficult to answer if you haven't been deployed, let alone posted
Do you like Full Metal Jacket?
how many dirty muslims do you kill in a day But really, do you think you made the right choice with joining the Military? Do you wish you went down another path?
Hah, well that's a terrifically scary question. I didn't join the Corps because I wanted to kick down doors and slay people for a living. I chose it mostly because I felt like I had something to prove (mostly to myself, but kinda to my family). In training, yeah I wish I had chosen a different MOS, not a different branch, because infantry training sucks 90% of the time, the other 10% gets broken down into 2 parts.. 5% is the cool shit you get to see, and the other 5% is the cool shit you actually get to do. So yeah, I'm happy with my choice at the end of the day. Every time we come back from the field I feel proud that I have it in me to make it through training even though I didn't fully understand what I was getting myself into when I signed my Statement of Understanding. [editline]19th May 2013[/editline]
Do you like Full Metal Jacket?
Well, it's funny how many things remained the same as far as Boot Camp goes. FMJ is from a totally different generation though. To much has changed and it would take hours for me to explain. Theres a lot Drill Instructors can't do now, and I read in the news knife hands aren't allowed anymore. Not that they had any super significance but it goes to show you how stupid the training is getting. And it's really really hard to sneak into the head and cap yourself considering we get shaken down for rounds (like patted down and rifles + magazines inspected).
How realistic do you think Generation Kill is in regards to how combat soldiers and officers act? It may be difficult to answer if you haven't been deployed, let alone posted
Its similar. The thing is, is Generation Kill is about Reconnaissance Marines, Marines which I've only talked to a few times. But in the "real deal" they're much more serious. Marines in general fuck around a lot just to keep themselves sane/positive. the politics are spot on though. I've never seen a film come closer to the "real deal" than the series (which I LOVE btw). Officers are more fun to talk to than enlisted, since enlisted always try to 1-up to officers so they are way more "hardcore/moto/strict". But if you were to compare how the Officers act in Generation Kill to how they really are.. eeh, a lot of them are laid back just like they are in Generation Kill, but there's still a handful here and there that are douchebags. Just like everywhere in life.
What's the general opinion in the Corps to other militaries, especially ones that the US serves with?
What's the general opinion in the Corps to other militaries, especially ones that the US serves with?
This is a pretty large question that probably nobody can answer, but I'll give it a shot. Infantry Marines that get stuck on MEU's train other/get trained by many foreign militaries, and every experience is different. The purpose is to have your Marines/allies as skilled and fierce as financially possible. Even if you have a bad experience and/or whether or not the US "best friends" with other countries, there is no reason not to respect another military. Even if they are your enemy. You still fight for the same general reasons and thats why you have a special bond that ties everyone together.
My question is do you plan on perpetuating yourself as a boot or is it unintentional?
What are your PFT and CFT scores also, that "knife hand ban" was just a rumour, they are still allowed.
I guess there are now two military threads. Except one is someone's own personal circle jerk.
excuse me while i utilize 2 out of the 3 panels from the most recent terminal lance comic

Enjoy being a boot until you go on a deployment. Also, stupid pointless formations and hazing.
Do you feel it's right for the Military to falsely advertise themselves in high schools in America? When I was in high school there were Military Personnel at a table near the lunch room maybe once a month trying to lure kids into joining under false pretenses, such as saying, "You get to blow stuff up for a living and ride in helicopters, it's real fun!" and other misleading things. They also would do the same thing with even younger people at the middle school trying to stir up recruits. I think such a thing should be flat out illegal. It's borderline lying to children to get them to sign up for a bigger force that they (the kids) don't yet understand.
Damn bro, you're boot as fuck. I hope your infantry unit fucks you up as much as possible....you'll be greatful for it down the road. :)
my beloved Corps
Jesus Christ kid we get it, your a boot. No need to advertise it to the whole fucking community.
excuse me while i utilize 2 out of the 3 panels from the most recent terminal lance comic
HAHAHA! Awesome, I actually just read the latest Terminal Lance that before I came into the thread.
How impressive is it to be an E-5 at age 25? Because i met a guy at work who was boasting about it. But either way he was cool considering he tipped me a $20.
What kind of shit do the DI's put you through daily?
I always wanted to join the military and I've tried asking many recruiters but my asthma prohibits me from stepping any foot in the military. The last asthma attack was unfortunately not long ago too (about 4 years, I'm 19 now) so this even hurts my chances more. Is there anything I can do?

Go here, it is an incredible resource for these kind of questions. http://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1250383 Also, no. Asthma is an automatic disqualifier.
can you 360 no scope
My question is do you plan on perpetuating yourself as a boot or is it unintentional?
Boom. There there, Thrilled, we were all a bunch of high and tight, dogtag wearing, boots at one time. Have fun getting hazed.
my question is: what does this boot shit mean?
my question is: what does this boot shit mean?
The story goes that back in the day, (around 1775ish) when the Marines of that time used to raid another ship, they used to take off their boots to climb the rope rungs of the ship sails. When new guys got to the unit, they were issued a pair boots. The old veterans used to call the new guys 'boots' because of this. No way to verify it, but that's what my seniors and their seniors told them. Basically it has become a term for any 'new guy' joining the unit. In today's context, it is used kind of derogatorily. You might hear the boss say, "Hey, that was a fucking boot move." Meaning a rookie move. Or it could be used casually, such as, "Hey, gather all the boots and have them clean the barracks at 0500."
my question is: what does this boot shit mean?
A short version of what Parkin said. 'Boot' is a general military term throughout all branches (although it did originate from the corps) meaning someone who hasn't been on a deployment yet (i.e. fresh from School/Boot Camp). Generally known to civilians under the term 'newbie', 'rookie' or the general favorite 'Fuck Stick'.
i have been in the idf myself i have some legit questions about US army: how is the food there? if a soldier is not feeling well/sick, what treatment does he get? where do you sleep most of the time and what are the quality of the rooms/tents? what punishment would a young recruit get if he misbehave in front of a higher rank or refuse an order? how many different uniforms you have, how many do you get of each and when do you wear them? Also a little fact you might have not known: the IDF is using the US desert camo uniform for soldiers in the military jail.
