The U.S.-based rights group said militants from the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria killed between 160 and 190 men in two locations in Tikrit between June 11 and June 14. "The number of victims may well be much higher, but the difficulty of locating bodies and accessing the area has prevented a full investigation," it said. After overrunning large swaths of northern Iraq and capturing the cities of Mosul and Tikrit earlier this month, the Islamic extremist group posted graphic photos on a militant website that appeared to show fighters loading dozens of captured soldiers onto flatbed trucks before forcing them to lie in a shallow ditch with their hands tied behind their backs. A final set of photos shows bodies. The photos and satellite images from Tikrit provide strong evidence of a horrible war crime that needs further investigation," Peter Bouckaert, emergencies director at Human Rights Watch, said in a statement. The militants "apparently executed at the very least 160 people in Tikrit." Chief Iraqi military spokesman Lt. Gen. Qassim al-Moussawi confirmed the photos' authenticity after they surfaced on June 15 and said he was aware of cases of mass murder of captured Iraqi soldiers in areas held by the Islamic State. He told The Associated Press at the time that an examination of the images by military experts showed that about 170 soldiers were shot to death by the militants after their capture.
http://www.cbc.ca/news/world/iraq-conflict-isis-executed-160-captives-rights-group-says-1.2689425
"Oh hey, they're this ditch here and their lining us up, I guess I'll just lie down here and let them put a bullet in my head." Fucking defeatism culture. They could have made a break for it. (User was banned for this post ("Trolling/shitposting/plain dumb" - Gurant))
are you serious
Oh hey, they're this ditch hear and their lining us up, I guess I'll just lie down here and let them put a bullet in my head. Fucking defeatism culture. They could have made a break for it.
what the fuck?
That guy has good style though, for a terrorist.

They could have made a break for it.
What do you think this is, the great escape? and tell me what you would have done in that situation? For the record, the guy in the picture reminds me a bit of Che Guevara if you look at him from the right angle.
what the fuck?
The Iraqi army lies down and dies at the first sign of defeat.
Expect more of this to happen from everyone as Iraq balkanises itself. e: vvv your title certainly isn't incorrect vvv

Tough choice.
For the record, the guy in the picture reminds me a bit of Che Guevara if you look at him from the right angle.
What is a right angle to look at an image?
I'd rather potentially die trying to escape than take certain death face down in a fucking ditch.
You're also forgetting that some people may just not care anymore about it and will just want to get it over with, because they have essentially made their peace with what might happen, and can't be bothered trying. I understand where you're coming from, but there it is.
victim blaming doesn't get more awful than this
I do wonder why those captured people don't just create as much chaos as possible by revolting when they're going to die anyways. Makes it harder for ISIS to control. But in hindsight anything could've been done better. Perhaps they hoped that they would have been spared if they acted calmly.

Personally, I would never, ever surrender to any of the militant groups. Being captured by them is a death sentence. I'd rather get gunned down than slowly tortured and shot in a mass grave or recorded while being beheaded.
"Oh hey, they're this ditch here and their lining us up, I guess I'll just lie down here and let them put a bullet in my head." Fucking defeatism culture. They could have made a break for it.
Most of them tried. There where people who burned their uniforms, and melted down their dog tags. And they where still found because the ISIS seized military bases and government buildings and had everyones name on it.
I wonder; certain death face down in a ditch or potential death trying to make a run for it. Tough choice.
The Iraqi army routing has nothing to do with being a "coward' for lying down and dying. They are routing because they have no hope of winning and they are fighting for a government they don't believe in. There have been plenty of mass executions in the past to prove that running away does nothing.
As I said, defeatism culture.
so it's a defeatist culture why do you have to talk down to them for it if that's their culture
It's not even a defeatist culture Download is just an idiot?
i would like to know what website they use, I'm rather curious about it. :v:
I wonder; certain death face down in a ditch or potential death trying to make a run for it. Tough choice.
You're gonna fuckin die regardless and when you die you won't give a flying fuck about if or if not you died the "correct" or "honorable" way so why the fuck is it defeatism when you've sat down and accepted your fate.
it's not really defeatism it's would you rather die by your enemy's hand or by your own country when they execute you anyway
You're gonna fuckih die regardless and when you die you won't give a flying fuck about if or if not you died the "correct" or "honorable" way so why the fuck is it defeatism when you've sat down and accepted your fate.
It has nothing to do with honourable, it's a choice between certain death and probable death. Which is more likely to kill you.
"Oh hey, they're this ditch here and their lining us up, I guess I'll just lie down here and let them put a bullet in my head." Fucking defeatism culture. They could have made a break for it.
I am pretty sure someone had tried to escape he would have suffered fate far worse than getting shot to the head. Also being surrounded by armed men made it pretty futile anyways.
I wonder; certain death face down in a ditch or potential death trying to make a run for it. Tough choice.
I'd like you stand at that ditch and see if you can say the same thing right there and then. ISIS are heartless bastards and they most likely will have no trouble torturing you as long as they damn well please if you decide to do make a run for it.
i would like to know what website they use, I'm rather curious about it. :v:
alqaeda.net
It has nothing to do with honourable, it's a choice between certain death and probable death. Which is more likely to kill you.
They probably do horrible things to the people that try to run to demoralize the rest. Being killed very slowly by knifework is worse than quickly being killed by bullets.

Fucking gopping beret.
