I'm getting a i5 4950, and I don't plan on overclocking anytime soon, so something with decent features I suppose.
Get a decent H97 board.Gigabyte, Asus and Msi one are good.
Ah, so something like the /ASUS H97-PLUS LGA 1150 Intel H97 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 or the H97 Intel Pro Guard?
Would help if we knew what features you want (eg. SLI, motherboard size)
I don't plan on sli, and I plan to purchase a 970 in a month or so. Possibly next week. I want a standard ATX motherboard, and maybe some with fan controller. Something under 150 USD.
Asrock z97 or z97X Fatal1ty Killer
z97 is $125, z97X is $150.
Both damn good boards.
Which ASRock Z97? There's like 5 of them.
Are you talking about this?
If you want to go fancy I would recommend this beauty.

Or the slightly cheaper version.

I've had a couple of these sabertooth boards and they are really nice. Plenty of room for big beefy graphics cards and they look quite nice at the same time.

ASRock Fatal1ty Z97 Killer and Extreme4 are basically the same motherboard and got good reviews, but Fatality only supports Crossfire, and is a bit cheaper. I took Extreme4 just in case I ever need sli.
If you don't want to overclock go with h97 motherboards since those are a bit cheaper and don't have fancy oveclocking features, otherwise take z97. z97 and h97 motherboards use new chipsets that will support new intel broadwell processors that should come out soon, so there wont be a problem upgrading later if you want.

This is what I'm planning on getting btw.

Don't get that processor. It's a low power gimped model that can't overclock
So, is the 4590 a bad processor overall? I'm not looking to overclock. At least, not anytime soon.
The 4590 is fine, but the 4590s is not.
Okay. Cool. Got paid this tues, so any final mobo suggestions.
I probably won't overclock right away, not until at least around Xmas. And I just remembered it's tax free weekend in GA... But yeah, throe some links. No more than 130 USD. I might go with that GIGABYTE GA-Z97X or the ASRock Z97 EXTREME4. NewEgg has and open box on for 108.
You can't overclock unless you get a k model CPU, so a Z series motherboard would be pointless.
Oh I know. There's some deals I saw on K processor, but I'm gonna wait on that. So I will buy one, but probably during Black Friday or Cyber Monday though. I'm thinking about getting this a Asus Z97-A. It's 139 and pretty cheap on a entry "pro" board.
