Liz Wahl said she could no longer be part of a network that “whitewashes the actions of Putin.” Inspired by off-script remarks Tuesday by RT anchor Abby Martin condemning Russian action in Crimea, Wahl admitted today she has “many ethical and moral challenges” to wrestle with in continuing to work for the state-owned television network. After talking about her own family history and what she’s heard of the “ultimate prices that people pay for this country,” Wahl announced she would be stepping down, effective immediately.

“I cannot be part of a network funded by the Russian government, that whitewashes the actions of Putin. I’m proud to be an American and believe in disseminating the truth, and that is why after this newscast, I am resigning.”
It's weird how all the human rights abuses against gays and the like aren't opposed at all by most of the people but it takes this for some of them to speak up. Good to see that some people are starting to speak up now, at least. (Well, I suppose that the gay hating started long ago so anyone who could've publicly resigned already did a long time ago).

Back when putin was reelected for his third term (4th if you count the puppet that medvedev was lol) where he gathered like 152% of the vote, there were massive protests but nothing was done about them. The government isn't in a position where they're willing to listen to it's people and the people aren't in a position to do anything about it. I'm sure there are/were some big protests about the anti-gay laws but they probably went mostly unnoticed because of all the staterun news media and reporters being too fearful of getting shot in an elevator to report on it. Russia is a complete shithole. [editline]6th March 2014[/editline]
what does this have to do with the gays?
what does this have to do with the gays? Did you even read the post?
On MSNBC earlier she said something about how Russia treated gay people factored into her decision, I think. I'm not certain, but I did hear her talking about that when they had her on.
Could this be signs that Russians might voice their anger towards Putin?

I don't have any familiar gay people though). Comparing two absolutelly different subjects is kinda...strange.

I never saw it and I don't know anyone who suffered through it but I haven't seen it with my own eyes, thus it doesn't exist". And they are similar subjects. One is a government oppressing an entire group of people and the other is a government oppressing an entire nation full of people. [editline]6th March 2014[/editline]
Could this be signs that Russians might voice their anger towards Putin?
Doubt it. The gulags still got room in them and Siberia is gold this time of year.
It's not about abusing gays (which exists only on paper, by the way. At least I've seen nothing of this with my own eyes. Hundreds of hunt-groups exist all across Russia and they use homosexuality and pedophilia interchangeably, while actively hunting down, ensnaring and humiliating their victims on camera with little repercussion from the law. Maybe the reason you're not familiar with any gay people is because being openly gay in Russia is literally walking around with a massive target on your back.
Doubt it. The gulags still got room in them and Siberia is gold this time of year.
Gulags? Siberia? Dude, you obviously have some crooked information about Russia. I hope this was ironic. Of course we don't have some democratic heaven like you guys do there, but we also don't live in Soviet Union with standards strifrom the 50-th.
Of course we don't have some democratic heaven like you guys do there, but we also don't live in Soviet Union with standards strifrom the 50-th.
lmao you kind of do though. Russia has some of the most reporters killed per year for a country thats not at war. Journalists who are human rights activists are at risk of being murdered by their government there. No shit you're not in a democratic haven, your government treats you like shit and puts down anyone who speaks up.

Privately owned business making you too much money? The government took it, reminds me a whole lot of the Soviet union and shafting private businesses.

Yeah, that's a political shit, but it harly fits the terms like "gulag". He sits in a comfotable cell and no one's gonna shoot him or something. I'm not justifying his arrest, but it's totally not like he's in some sadistic labor camp, and no one will send you to Sibera either here. I mean, Russian governmen is shit, but it's not that tyranic as you think. I live a normal life and have almost everything i want, and i'm not some super richy guy, just a typical middle class representative.
Could had at least posted the video:

Knowing what happens to people who say things about Putin. I hope she doesn't die.
relax dude everyone in facepunch already thinks we live in something like uganda brb looking for some food in the trash bin
Nobody thinks you guys are poor and broke, we just know that your government is hilariously tyrannical even though it's a huge player in the economic world.
I'll give her that; shes grown a set of her own testicles for this. Hopefully nothing bad befalls her because of this, [editline]f[/editline] But she's already in america so probably not

Good self-PR, i gotta admit. I can even see from here the lines of a various news networks to hire her.
I'll give her that; shes grown a set of her own testicles for this. Hopefully nothing bad befalls her because of this, I'm guessing she is American and will just end up coming here?
it's rt america she's already in america

This though might come from my cynic spectacles, but does anyone these days want to employ a journalist with integrity? I'd say these announcements are doubly admirable, as they might be entirely career-destroying.
This though might come from my cynic spectacles, but does anyone these days want to employ a journalist with integrity? On one hand, if the journalist who quit your competition over how shitty they are, settles with you, it's good for publicity and all. On the other hand - yeah, quitters are not all that welcome if they have the balls to shit on you right in front of your audience.
which exists only on paper, by the way. At least I've seen nothing of this with my own eyes. Then compare it to the time you spend behind a computer, posting comments on FP, or just generally living your life in a way that in no way poses a threat to your government. You see nothing because you have no reason to.
