I rode the escalators at the nearest mall so many times in a row that a security guard asked me to stop because I was walking by his post every 30 seconds. I made sure to wave to him each time after that.

those gaps are barely big enough for a piece of grass to get stuck it. Even IF his shoelace somehow got caught in it, it wouldn't do anything, he'd just have to cut off the shoestring.
I don't think it's physically possible to get your entire foot caught in the bottom of an escalator.
