Okay, sick of these first time threads. Pot newbies, head in here now

Well I bet if you're a regular here you've seen about seven
"How do I smoke weed lol?"
threads per month and I think it's probably about time we stickied a thread to avoid answering the same questions over and over again.
So we can start here
So you want to smoke weed? You're going to be smoking with some friends I assume, probably out of a pipe, bong or a joint.
How not to freak out
Now here is the big secret. Do not freak the fuck out. You will be fine, as long as you are in a group of friends that you trust and that you're fine to chill with. If you begin to get worried, don't. It's all in your head and you will over analyse things so it's probably just worth forgetting about them.
Also no matter how high you get, do not think you're going to die. I did this first time around. You will just go to sleep if you get too baked.
Getting high
When you get whacked for the first time, do not become one of many people who DO IT WRONG and do not get high. The myth you don't get high the first time is stupid. After you take a hit, breathe in as much air as you can through your nose and push the smoke deeper into your lungs. Hold it for as long as you can (I got for about ten seconds) and exhale.
Do not cough when there is smoke in your lungs or you will have a very, very bad time.
Now what?
Have a couple more hits, and sit back and chill for a bit. Do not continually ask people if you're high yet, because you will know when you are, I guarantee. Do not overdo it first time around, you can always smoke more but you cannot smoke less.
So listen to some music, for the love of god it will change your life. You are also going to get very, very hungry so you'll be eating and drinking. Once you're at this point just continue to smoke, chill, and relax with your friends and you will have a successful night.
Checklist
Water/beverage
Music
Deodorant (optional)
Food
Some friends
Here is what Pepin had to say
Feel free to add the below. I am purposely not providing any statistic that "you can OD if you smoke y joints in x time" because that misleads people into believing that you can OD. It is more effective to be flat out.

Can you overdose or die on marijuana?

No. It is impossible to overdose on marijuana. The has never been a death reported from marijuana use.
Read the below if you want to try weed but don't have any connections
We are going to have no ability to hook you up or help you get hooked up. You are going to have to find dealers on your own. The best way is through friends who you know smoke. Then through acquaintances. Lastly approaching people on the street who seem like they might know somebody. That not working? Keep looking. The fact of the matter is that nobody on the forum is going to be able to help you get drugs.
Are there any health dangers?
There are no real short term health dangers. If it is your first time, you should not drive. With a lot of smoking, people can get depersonalization and derealization, but this is usually temporary and not a big deal.
Does marijuana cause schizophrenia or other mental illnesses?
As far as the evidence goes, no. Marijuana will only bring out mental diseases, there has been nothing to prove that it can create them. If your family has history of mental illness and want to be safe you may want to avoid drugs, but it is your choice.
I take antidepressants or some other medication. Should I smoke marijuana?
That's a decision you have to make. A lot of people find that marijuana has no interaction with their medications. If you want to be cautious, smoke a small to moderate amount and see if it affects you badly. If no bad effects, do it regularly and see if there are any ill effects. If there still isn't, you'll likely be fine.
My friend/dealer said they can hook me up with [strain name]. Is it any good?
Something to understand about strain names is that dealers will make the names up or just not know what they are talking about. They may see something that has a lot of crystals and call it White Widow. A lot of times names are made up to sell their product. Asking if a certain strain is good is really hard to answer because there is low chance that what you will be getting will be that strain. This is of course untrue of places like California because they are more reputable because of the large chain of medical marijuana dispensaries.
If you want information about strains, go to the link below.

Can you get high off of eating raw weed?
Yes you can, but it is very ineffective. It is known that you can get high off of eating weed because there have been a lot of people who have swallowed their stash to avoid possession charges. The usual amount people seem to swallow is an eighth to a quarter and they report feeling buzzed to really high. It is evident that eating raw weed is very nasty, is a huge waste when compared to the usual methods, and should not be done unless for good reason.

What is the best way to not smell like I've been smoking? How long does the smell last?

Open air, spray, changing clothes, showering. As far as your mouth goes, brushing your teeth and lips, gum, food, and most of all time. There are a lot of factors in how long you will smell like weed, the biggest being where you are smoking it. If you're hot boxing a small room, the smell is going to stay on you longer then if you're traveling on a nature trail. What this pretty much means is that if you are really worried about smelling, hot boxing an area would not be an ideal decision.
You also have to take different kinds of weed into consideration. Some stuff smells stronger and will linger on your a lot longer than other stuff. Just as a little story, Meader took the roaches of his joints and would reuse them in the next joint. After a large number of generations the joint was extremely dank. The issue with it though was that it stunk and the smell lingered so very easily. This wouldn't be a big deal if it wasn't for the fact that you could get in trouble with the college just for smelling like weed.
If you're smoking outside, there are still a few tips that can help reduce smell. Blow smoke away from people, in a direction where it won't come back. If your body doesn't come in contact with smoke, then only your mouth will smell of smoke. It's always good to carry your stuff in a plastic baggy or some other kind of container.
Smell really isn't that much of an issue to worry about, it should be gone in around half an hour, but at times it can linger pretty badly. If you're worried about the smell, following the above advice will help reduce the chance of the smell lingering.
The different levels of highness
This is how I'd categorize it, other people may do it differently. I like to think of it in plateaus. You can't really mistake a different plateau for another.
Sober - You feel relatively normal. You don't feel any different.
Buzzed - You aren't feeling as normal, you may be getting some minor effects. You know that you're feeling something, but it isn't affecting you that much.
Half High - You feel pretty impaired but not to its full extent. It's a good step up from buzzed, but you couldn't really say "woah I'm high". You could probably say "I'm feeling it, but I'm not high". If you want, you could also call this really buzzed.
High - This is where you feel the full effect of the drug. You can't really mistake the previous levels for being high because it is obvious to you that you are high. Although you are pretty high, you are comfortable with it and it feels pretty controllable.
Uncomfortably High - This is where the effects are out of your comfort limit. You still feel as though you have some control over high and that you are somewhat grounded.
Too High - This is where you don't have control over your high and the effects are very overwhelming. This is where many people are likely to start freaking out and think they are dying.
Many people enjoy the thrill of being too high, but it is often difficult for newer smokers to enjoy it. Personally, I must say that my best highs have been when I've been too high.
Is there a difference between being high and being stoned?
Yes there is. A good point to realize though is that high can be a specific term, and also a general term. It's not that uncomplicated as you can usually figure it out from the context. Also realize that some people may use them interchangeably.
High - You feel more energetic. You want to do things. The effects are usually more in your head. The sativa strain will usually make you high.
Stoned - This is pretty much the opposite. You don't really want to do things. You could sit and stare at the wall and still have a great time. Couch lock may happen. The effects are usually more in your body. The indica strain is more likely to cause this.
What causes the different highs?
There are about 66 different cannabinoids in marijuana. The most well known is THC and this will usually cause a head high. But the other cannabinoids also have a big factor in it. Usually a potent strains with a lower amount of THC will produce a body high and will make you stoned while strains with high THC will produce a head high and make you high. It's also good to point out that sativas usually have a higher amount of THC while the opposite is true of indicas. The answer is the different ratios of the active ingredients.
How long will the high take to wear off?
That depends on how much you smoke and a few other factors. The usual high will last from 1-3 hours. Your first time may last longer, potentially up to 7 hours. It's difficult to say, but the 1-3 hour time frame is most reliable. Also realize that you only stay at your peak for so long before coming down, so you could potentially have a 4 hour high, but you may just be buzzed at the 2 hour mark.
Will I be safe to drive if I'm high?
I wouldn't advice driving unless you are used to how being high feels. You want to be comfortable with it. If you don't feel safe driving, don't drive. If you are too high, it might not be a good idea to drive. Most people can drive pretty easy. There are actually studies that show people are better drivers when under the influence of marijuana. As long as you are aware of how the drug affects you, feel free to drive.
Just as a little story, my first couple of times getting high I got this huge delay effect. Someone would say something to me and I'd go to say something in response, and then I'd see myself responding about five seconds later. Playing beer bong was very interesting because of the delay, it was like I would go to throw, and then see myself throw it five seconds later. It is safe to say that it would not be safe for me to drive with that kind of effect.
I agree that it should be stickied, but with a different title like first time weed smokers look here
I don't know, it's fun to see new threads with people not knowing what to do, keep the forum alive
The forum is alive, with the regulars
I'm sick of the threads.
We should change the title

to overdose on marijuana through smoking would take atleast 300 joints, 300 whole joints, and you wouldn't even die from the actual herb. you'd only die from the smoke problems. with the eating way I don't think there is even a way to overdose, at all.

Yes, the statistic comes from animal testing, yes you can consider it valid although your statement can be completely dismissed because you didn't even include time. 300 whole joints... In an hour? In a week? In a decade? In half a second?
If someone asks you "can you OD on marijuana" your answer should never be "yes, you'd just need to smoke this much in this amount of time. Sure, it isn't physically possible, but yes you can OD". Although what you're saying makes it clear it is not possible, many people will walk away thinking it is possible. Your answer should instead be a flat out no. Don't quote the LD50 dosage, don't make some analogy that makes it seem like it's highly improbable, make it clear that it is absolutely impossible. If they want proof, you can tell them that there is no documentation case of an overdose, and that the LD50 dosage in humans is far too high for there to be any concern at all.
I hope I'm being clear with my reasoning as to why you should be flat out and not quote some statistic derived from the LD50 dose. You should never say that it is possible to overdose.
You can OD on weed.
If you have no gag reflex you will die if you eat 7kg of grass.
Prove me wrong.

Good thread, but I enjoy reading those threads. So long as the op delivers after he does said drug! :argh:
Reading 'results' are p. fun/interesting imo. As in, what happened/how did if feel.
Not that they can't write that sort of stuff in the soon-to-be stickied thread as well.
If you can't reply in the sticky thread with results then it is a bad and boringly-dull idea
Try a bucket bong

In my opinion the best method for new (and old) smokers, not harsh at all, pushes smoke into your lungs and is hits you like a train ( I use a socket and plasticine for the bowl). Only really beaten by a real glass bong.

Otherwise known as a gravity bong, while lighting the bowl you slowly pull the halved bottle/jug up.
you know what i always say?
fuck it. have a bucket.

I think they said LD50 for benadryl was around 750. And I took 900 my first time and was just fine
I like the new threads, it's interesting to read. It's also nice to let people get excited about their first time, don't forget you had a first time too.

Last Summer I was stoned with mates laying on a trampoline, the fact that I have no gag reflex came up in conversation and all of a sudden I have about 5 people shoving their fingers down my throat
On a related note I like tickling people on their palate, but it's risky business because some people don't open their mouths even wider and laugh but clam shut around my finger and giggle like they're not acting like cannibals.
Do you bite or laugh?
What's a palate?
I've read (and googling "how long does it take to absord THC" supports me here) that it only takes around 3 seconds to absorb most of the THC in smoke. By holding it in longer than that you're just unnecessarily allowing your lungs to gather more unhealthy shit from the smoke.

Upper part of the mouth, one of the few places where you can tingle yourself. I noticed this a few years ago, from that day it didn't take long for me to realize that it was the ultimate position to tingle another person, quite amusing really.
okay kaskade I won't bite you :h:

Mechanically assisted jaw.
Otherwise known as a gravity bong, while lighting the bowl you slowly pull the halved bottle/jug up.
There are two main types of gravity bongs. The main difference between them is one you use a container or bucket to pull the device out of, the other you fill up with water and let it drain out into a sink or something. The first is usually called a bucket bong and the other is usually called a waterfall bong. There is likely some other terms.
They actually have a tornado in a bottle gravity bong.
we need some kind of sticky, two first timer X threads within 15 minutes of each other is super dumb
Maybe you should write some sort of FAQ first then on to some proper smoking etiquette for first timers so they dont seem too newbie when they first start smoking.
Sorry, you need to Log In to post a reply to this thread.
