Wise to wait for ATI 5-series? - Hardware & Software

Hello. I'm just about to purchase a rig with an nVidia Gefore GTX 295. My question is should I wait for the DirectX 11 GPUs to release?

Idk man they'll probably cost like 40,000 bucks. What are you gonna play? I have a HD4850 and it's fkn awesome.

Yes, I'd wait. The 5xxx cards will be out in a week or two. ^ the 5870 is supposed to cost $300-$400, and be roughly as powerful as a 295, which still costs $500+

I already bought GTA IV, I want to try ArmA II as well. :smile: I heard almost all of the 5-series will be DDR5 and X2 (except low-ends of course)

Ati has been using GDDR5 since... like, 15 cards ago or something

So what should I conclude? Wait or skate?

just wait and see the benchmarks and then make your move

Nvidia is probally going to slash their prices abit with the 5 series, also. Should save you some bucks to wait.

I'd like to get my hands on one of those 5870 X2 then. As long as the price/performance is at a good ratio, of course.

I think I'll wait for them. Perhaps get a better deal than the GTX 295, which indeed is expensive.

the 295 sold for 350 over @ overclock.net, great deals there.

Well even if you don't get a 5XXX its a good idea to wait for them to come out because you could probably get 2 4890's and crossfire for a much lower price than the 295 and blow it out of the water with the graphical goodness.
