http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-35940067
China and the United States will work together to try and prevent further missile tests by North Korea, US President Barack Obama says. In recent weeks, North Korea has carried out a hydrogen bomb test and has repeatedly test-fired missiles while making threats to the West. Mr Obama met Chinese President Xi Jinping on the sidelines of a nuclear summit in Washington on Thursday. Mr Obama said both countries were keen to see a nuclear-free Korean peninsula. He said he and Mr Xi were seeking to agree "how we can discourage action like nuclear missile tests that escalate tensions and violate international obligations".
good news
April fools?
April fools?
I sure hope not, North Korea needs to calm their tits.
Radioactive clouds from NK would probably blow into China. Though with how bad their air quality is, I doubt they would notice.
In North Korea, we celebrate April Fool's Day everyday.
Mr Obama said both countries were keen to see a nuclear-free Korean peninsula.
no china was only keen on a nuclear-free Korea after they realized that lil'kim is a fucking lunatic that suddenly didn't want to be puppeted by China still
no china was only keen on a nuclear-free Korea after they realized that lil'kim is a fucking lunatic that suddenly didn't want to be puppeted by China still
he's still keen on it because that means china has more power over both of them
no china was only keen on a nuclear-free Korea after they realized that lil'kim is a fucking lunatic that suddenly didn't want to be puppeted by China still
I'd rather take a North Korea puppet state than what we have now.
I'd rather take a North Korea puppet state than what we have now.
no you're missing the point, china only cares now that NK has suddenly become a problem to them they didn't care if NK had nukes or even an asteroid pointed at south korea or the US, they limpwristedly enforced the sanctions, they probably provided nuclear help, and they defended NK every step of the way, now we all have a nuclear armed state with lots of guns, lots of hate, and a really small man with a large can of lube ready to light up southeast asia and NOW its suddenly scary enough that they decide "gee, maybe we've played this game too long" then if things do work out peacefully, and NK gives up their nukes, china's just going to go back to saying "well you guys asked for it"
Is it finally happening? Is N. Korea finally gonna get snapped in two like a Slim Jim?
Honestly, it's about time something is done about NK.
What for? NK does nothing other than empty threats.
All this means in my eyes is that if NK starts ramping up more nuke tests and whatever, China is going to probably cut more funding and if NK was to launch a missile strike against ANYONE, they would ally with the United States [editline]1st April 2016[/editline] China holds the power to settle NK purely bc they're leeching off the Chinese economy ever since the Soviet Union collapsed, so the moment China threatens to cut more money, NK will start behaving
no china was only keen on a nuclear-free Korea after they realized that lil'kim is a fucking lunatic that suddenly didn't want to be puppeted by China still
Obama is right, in this case. The more bold North Korea gets, the more of an indirect threat they become to the Chinese. A weaker North Korea is better for them.
Obama is right, in this case. The more bold North Korea gets, the more of an indirect threat they become to the Chinese. NK has stood as a wedge china can use against South Korea, Japan, and the US. want these sanctions enforced? well you'd better be nice to us, want to arrange family visits? well you'd better give us something south korea, want them to stop threatening to nuke you...oh who are we kidding japan we hate you for being so otaku, gib us more money china has always used NK as a puppet, now the puppets come off the strings
Radioactive clouds from NK would probably blow into China. Though with how bad their air quality is, I doubt they would notice.
A detonation in the right spot might actually clean the air for a bit :v:
What for? NK does nothing other than empty threats.
Yeah I mean fuck the people living there, right?
Yeah I mean fuck the people living there, right?
There's not a whole lot we can do about the way NK treats its citizens. Nothing short of invading them or putting down more sanctions, which would just make it worse for them.
Fall of NK when? http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/us-and-china-agree-to-oppose-north-korea-nuclear-programme-a6962901.html
In a letter which reportedly condemns Beijing’s part in the sanctions, the Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of North Korea has commanded its people to actively confront China with a “nuclear storm”. The letter was obtained by the Daily NK but could not be independently verified.

There's not a whole lot we can do about the way NK treats its citizens. Nothing short of invading them or putting down more sanctions, which would just make it worse for them.
Temporarily yes, but think of future generations etc.
Temporarily yes, but think of future generations etc.
Invading will most likely result in a much better NK after a few decades (they got a lot of catching up to do). But anyone that invades will probably be seen negatively on the world stage. People really don't like it when you rock the status quo.

The issue would be that China would never let a functional government reform, nor would they give it to South Korea, so we would be back to square 1, maybe a little better then having a complete dictatorship but the only government China would allow would be one that they have control over like tiwan or Hong Kong
Invading North Korea and handing every scrap of land over to South Korea or setting up a democratic, US influenced government like we did with Japan would be for the best and worth every bit of trouble. Yes, people will die, yes, many North Koreans will struggle or fail to cope with a world as different to what they thought it was, and yes, North Korea technically hasn't done anything against everyone else (minus polluting the ocean), but it's worth all of it. The people there deserve better, the people in camps deserve freedom, the people who have yet to be born deserve to be born in to a world where they're not being subjected to propaganda for some kind of almighty God leader or whatever shlock they're fed. Not to mention North Korea is a dangerous country growing more capable of harming it's neighbors every day, while constantly making threats of war. Yeah, sure, if you waited it out North Korea would collapse on it's own, but that would cause a huge mess all the same and could take generations to happen, generations of suffering all to say 'we didn't invade like good little boys :)' and at any point they could decide to actually invade South Korea or some shit. Imagine if they managed to get their hands on a modern nuclear weapon and had the means to use it. Yes, it violates all the 'you can't say your culture is better htan others flbblfb' star trek-esque rules people have, but I don't care. A country with what are described as 'Auschwitz-like' camps should be forcibly prevented from continuing.

NK works as a buffer between China and SK with its western influence. It would be cool if China decided to invade NK themselves but I don't think that's going to happen.
what Taiwan is a totally separate country from mainland china, and they hate each other
Go look how much China influences taiwan's politics, it's not as clear cut as HK but China believes taiwan is really Chinese, and they are pretty vocal and active in the elections there. Recently the independent party got a sweeping victory and China was fuming mad Also they aren't officially a country in the UN which leads to all sorts of shit like Palestine had, basically China stomps on them whenever they can and because of their quasi-state status they have no real avenues to stop it China has been trying to get them to agree to a one-state-fuck-you system like HK but obviously no sane state would ever agree to that without the threat of tanks
Go look how much China influences tiwan's politics, it's not as clear cut as HK but China believes tiwan is really Chinese, and they are pretty vocal and active in the elections there. It's nothing like Hong Kong. Taiwan is even militarily opposed to China, and is backed by western nations

Somewhat like Ukraine and Russia, and their political parties have been shaped by that as well, mainly for economic interests, though the newest generation has been fiercely independant. You are right it's not as bad as HK but the PRC has a lot of pull on Taiwanese politics being so close
