Could you Handel a professional clan leader position?

I am the leader of a clan and alot of people say things to me such as "leading a clan is easy, anyone could do it" Now I beg to differ, I am posting this thread to inform anyone who doesn't know what a clan leader does/has to deal with, so here goes.

[b]First setup[/b]

The initial setup of the clan is the hardest part as the excitement from having your own clan can make you enraged by the littlest of things things that keeps you away from the clan starting date. The first mistake anyone can make when deciding to lead the clan is rushing it, if you rush it then you will end up with everything from server to websites fails and your sitting alone in a teamspeak for hours on end.
The first part of a clan is setting up communications, this includes: group making on programs like steam and xfire, setting up a website (more on that later) and buying a teamspeak. Now then anyone that rushes into a clan will proberly buy a seperate teamspeak with 100 slots on it's own. You don't have to do alot of research to find out that most game server companies offer a free teamspeak with a gameserver which is perfect for someone who doesn't have alot of finds to get a clan going. A major part of the clan setup is picking what game your clan will play, I quickly learnt that didn't work as people like to play multiple games. Although this may seem an easy step it is a skill to puck the right games at the right time, you want a game that is popular (like the CoD series) but isn't overloaded with 1000s of servers (like CoD 4). That can be at times catch 22 but it is all down to observation and a wee bit of luck.

Now you have your clan's initial setup, this can take up to 4 or 5 days.

[b]Recruitment[/b]

This is definatly the hardest part for any clan the initial recruitment of the first 20 clan members can make or break a clan. Having a group of teenagers will scare off older recruits, a group of drunk Irishmen will scare off the younger members who don't have a risk of having a heart attack in the next 2 years. There are several recruitment methods 2 methods I have used are:

Posting on recruitment forums such as the xfire forums - this may seem stupid but people who are looking for clans and use xfire all the time will look their first, you can advertise for the right people and send them directly to your website.

Server messages on a gameserver - If you have one allready then this is the beast way of recruiting providing you have a populated server.

[b]After 20 members it is time to buy a gameserver for the main gale your clan plays.[/b]
Without it then your clan will go no further. There are 100s of companies that host game servers all offering different packages that come with different stuff, I personaly use dedifrag.com as they are reliable and will match any price I find cheaper. Don't rush this step and if you find trouble paying for one there's usually at least one person willing to help out with costs.

[b]Day to day clan management[/b]
This includes things like banning greifers from teamspeak and game servers, answering member's questions, accepting new clan members, moderating the forums, helping to get a game server populated and begging for donations.

In conclusion running a clan is like a second job, I enjoy doing it as I can boss people about :P , talk to similar people about tech stuff and I can play around with websites and servers etc, yes that makes me a big geek. Want your own clan? Stop and rink about three things: do you have the free time to do it, can you afford it? Could you put up with annoying people and teamspeak and play te same game for hours night after night?

My experiance:
Been a member of 2 clans, formed one which folded, formed another which crashed as I had a real life accident which left me off my pc for 3 months called The Red Bullets, current clan leader co owning the Conflict Global Strike clan

There is lots more I do like arranging training and clan latchs bity iPod is running out of batterie :(

I think you must of had a problem with keeping your clan and personal life seperate, I don't fond it hard, I have a girlfriend and she knows how much I love gaming but as soon as she wants to do something it's not, no I'm gaming, it's ok I'll be right there
