You know these motherfuckers?

These are Cuttlefish. They are the most badass fucking animals on earth. Why, you ask?
First: Their skin is coated with color changing pigments with a resolution of (on average) 359DPI.
Here's a video of them and their changing color:

Second: Their eyes. Cuttlefish have a unique eye structure so they can see polarized light and have no blind spots like vertebrate eyes do. They can reshape their eye so the focal point has an incredibly wide range. It is said that cuttlefish eyes are fully developed before they are born, and they can observe their surroundings while inside of their egg. They are even known to prefer hunting creatures that they saw while in the egg.
Third: They have 3 hearts. That's right. 3. 2 which pump blood through their gills and one which pumps blood through the rest of their body.
Fourth: They can spray ink to escape danger and they have saliva with high levels of neurotoxins, similar to that of an octopus.
Fifth: THESE LITTLE FUCKERS ARE SMART AS SHIT. They are said to have the highest intelligence levels of any invertebrate, and the largest brain to body ratio.

They've even got fucking comics about them

Oh yeah and they look like mini Cthulhus. :cthulhu:
I, for one, accept our Cuttlefish overlords.
Have to disagree.
Squid are so much more awesome, but cuttlefish are second on my list.
It doesn't look very amused.

Its plotting its next deadly move.
They are delicious snacks.
That cuttlefish in the video looks at the camera like "Aw yeah, can you do this shit? No you can't."

I eat cuttlefish sometimes. They're yummy.
I wonder if they would make good pets.
I wish I had active camouflage :saddowns:
You're totally right. They can change color, they have great intelligence and there's species adapted to walking on their tentacles and their mantle (on water)
Just imagine seeing them adapting to terrestial habitats, developing lungs and becoming fully terrestial. They can turn invisible, they have retractive tentacles, and a powerful beak: the perfect predators.
PS: About the eye structure, is the same than the octopus one: it works just like our eyes, a great example of convergent evolution
Watched these while Scuba Diving in the Firth of Forth once. It's fun to just float and watch them change colours.
Marine animals that live near the Abyssal Plain are far more interesting.

They may be more interesting but they're pretty freaky.
the white stuff you see floating behind them that looks like snow is actually detritus
Dead skin and shit falling from the top layer of the ocean lol
You son of a bitch, this a parody thread: http://www.facepunch.com/threads/1030181-Flying-Fucking-Snakes
What the hell man
Oh god. Just realized something.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cuttlebone
I used to buy heaps of this shit when I raised Hermit Crabs. They eat it and it helps protect their outer shell, and eyesight.
I feel horrible that I supported the killing of these creatures. :gonk:

Actually, no this wasn't. It's a pretty common format for "holy shit, (Insert awesome thing here)" threads.

All is forgiven then
"Cuttlefish" was the secret password you had to say to get in the hotel room on my oceanography trip.
snipadee
There's a tank full of cuttlefish at the aquarium in my town. I fucking love them, they look like little squids but cooler.
After seeing the video, I do have to agree that Cuttlefish are bad-ass.
