My birthday is coming up and I would really like a 2nd monitor but my current 22" takes up all my desk space.
Is it worth getting a smaller ( around 13" which might even be too big..maybe mount it? ) monitor so I can dual monitors or it just best to wait until I have a bigger desk?
I've never had a 2nd monitor so I have no clue on the thing. Does the drastic change in size matter? If it is worth it, are there any suggestions for under $200?
How big is your desk?
You could also look into one of those dual monitor desk mounts to help free up some space.
My desk is small. Another issue it has walls on the side that take up half of the edge and it has a cubby hole from the roof part of the desk. I really have no room but I would like a 2nd monitor for watching a video or having it mainly so I don't have to alt-tab to read something. I don't plan on like using anything that needs both screens at the same time.
Something basic would be to pick up an old ~15" 4:3 from a second hand shop. You can get one for dirt cheap and would be solid for just a side thing to read guides or whatever without alt-tabbing out of a game. It's what I used before I had the money for a new second monitor.
imo wait for a bigger desk. I tried cramming three monitors onto my desk and it just wasnt happening, i lived in constant fear of knocking my knee into the side of my desk and sending one of my monitors to the floor. I now have a desk big enough to house three and it was well worth the wait. Hit up an Ikea and spend like 150 on a desk and you should be golden. (i'd rather have the bigger desk then the monitor for a birthday present)
Yeah..I've always wanted a L-shape desk.

If you have the room and feel like spending some money, a lot of people suggest the Galant from Ikea, mostly because it's goddamn huge :v:
I would suggest getting a new desk. If you aren't too concerned about the quality of the monitor. I take it will be just for multitasking reading stuff and chatting to people and your primary monitor will be for gaming and watching movies etc. You could probably pick up a 17" monitor from any where to £70+ which will do the job.
I found this on Ikea http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/40244850/ and plan to get it myself in a few weeks since I need a slightly longer deak since I'm getting a second monitor tomorrow hopefully. But I'm lucky enough to probably be able to squeeze it onto my current desk. But of course I want a bit of space hence the change of desk.
But I would strongly recommend a new bigger desk since the joy of using a second screen monitor can be quickly ruined by having to lean in and read because you can only fit a tiny monitor. Just makes it counter productive in my opinion.
I've used 15" ones and my eyes aren't great but I didn't see the use since it took a lot of my attention just to see what was on the screen.
