• How to accept mediocrity, a guide by a facepuncher for facepunchers

Are you tired of being rejected? Do you yearn for something more in life but can't seem to attain it? Whether it be women, a good job, or friends who respect you, this guide is there to help you cope with your obvious mediocrity and live a life that you can be complacent with. 1. Accept rejection. We have all had it happen to us at one point in our lives. The harsh feeling of being rejected. Some are rejected by that special girl they are in love with, others by that job they were looking for. You will be rejected at some point, unless you are fucking awesome at everything. What do we do about this? The key is to just accept it. It's either done then said, really. Once you are rejected, just stop. Stop trying for it ever again. You would have no idea how well it works. A recent study suggests that 100% of people who just stop trying won't be rejected again. This is the sure fire way to get rid of that feeling. Some people say that perseverence will get you want you want. This is a lie. People who achieve stuff are most likely genetically predisposed to it. They get what they want because they are somehow able to. You are not this person, so stop trying or you will always feel bad. 2. Get revenge. Revenge is sweet. It is a beautiful thing that makes us all feel better when we get it. No matter what the means always try and get revenge on those who rejected you. Remember, it's not your fault you were rejected, you are a perfectly mediocre person, it is their fault for being a bitch/asshole. However, if you work a job you can't always go on a bloodthirsty rampage through your office. So what should you do? Glad you asked! The key is to not actively enact revenge. You should always strive to make sure you are aggressive, yet passive. This will never get you fired from a job, even if you do it to your boss! You do this by constantly undermining a person's desires or orders, in a way that is obvious, but still looks like you don't mean to do it. Talking behind people's backs, "forgetting" to file a report, and "accidentally" losing your co-workers stuff is what this is all about. Remember though, you have to look as innocent as possible. This means you must never say what you think to someone's face, and when someone confronts you you always respond with "sorry, I didn't know it was yours! =)" or something to that effect. This is guaranteed to make you feel good about yourself, no matter what. Bitchyness = Confidence! 3. Stop wanting stuff This is so easy I wonder how it hasn't become common sense to every mediocre person on the planet. If you will never get something, why even want it? This is as simple as turning a switch off in your head and saying "Ok, I don't want a girlfriend/job/house!" You really don't need to do anything more than that. You will suddenly find yourself happier with less. It isn't human nature to want better stuff, this is a cultural thing. Magazines, TV, Radio, all of these mediums glamorize having shit when really you probably don't have the genetics to get any of it. So just stop wanting it. 4. Half ass everything You aren't going to get promoted, don't even try. Work the bare minimum you can each day. It's a waste of valuable energy to work when you could be playing minesweeper in your cubicle or looking at porn on the company's dime. Even in relationships, just do the bare minimum you possibly can. It's their fault for not being a better friend anyways(go back to 2. if you are having trouble understanding this). A master of mediocrity(oxymoron? You decide!) can get through his entire life without ever pushing himself. Remember guys, mediocrity is what you are destined for, just fucking accept it already. If you become passive aggressive, stop trying, work the least you can, and stop wanting shit, you will soon go from: to See how happy he looks? Just do it already.
5. don't listen to other facepunch nerds
5. don't listen to other facepunch nerds
That wasn't my advice at all. That is like...slander or something... Oh well, I don't really give a fuck anyways, I already took way more than my monthly allowance of effort to try and help you guys. [editline]20th January 2011[/editline]
i followed this guide and was put on anti depressants
See? We have success stories already!
I have lived by OP's advice my whole life. Until about 6 months ago. Now I'm pulling in 45,000 USD a year at 17. Read into that what you will.
this guide helped me get over my unnecessary and ultimately futile aspirations to be a better person! thanks yawmwen!
How about no If you want something, you have to fight for it

This is a guide for mediocre people. Haha, nicely placed comics.
If you have to fight for something, it probably isn't worth having in the first place.
So if I have to fight for having my dream job, it's not worth it? Really? Your logic is so flawed in so many ways.
So if I have to fight for having my dream job, it's not worth it? Really? Your logic is so flawed in some many ways.
Of course it's not worth it. It probably shouldn't be your dream job anyways if you have to actually work for it. I mean seriously, just make something else your dream job. 3. told you how to stop wanting stuff, just follow that advice.

If you're saying that I should give up the only thing that I want (ie. my future, my dreams and my need) I say no, you are an idiot and you should stop posting now.
If you have to fight for something, it probably isn't worth having in the first place.
Buahaha, That is Ridiculous
He's basically saying "hey guys skip school because you have to work for your grades, its not worth it"
Buahaha, That is Ridiculous
Yes, but it is ridiculous enough to be right!
I want my animation job because it is what I live for, it's what keeps me going. You should stop wanting it altogether. It's so simple I can't see how you are not getting it. [editline]20th January 2011[/editline]
He's basically saying "hey guys skip school because you have to work for your grades, its not worth it"
School never did anything for anyone. All millionaires are self made and never went to school, also plenty of mediocre people never went to school either. Like I said, it's in your genes.

No you're wrong and making mediocre people want more than they will ever realistically get(anything). You are the problem.
You shouldn't just give it up, how crude is that? You should stop wanting it altogether. It's so simple I can't see how you are not getting it.
What's the point of living if you give up as soon as things don't go your way? MAKE THEM go your way. The thing is that I WILL get it BECAUSE I fight for it. The day a man stops fighting is the day he is dead.
This guy has the same message, except he'll try to sell you DVDs to teach you: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KeqiLAM7ujA
This guy has the same message, except he'll try to sell you DVDs to teach you: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KeqiLAM7ujA
meh, too much effort, and it probably wouldn't get me that much money anyways. Fuck it. (see how easy that was?)
School never did anything for anyone. All millionaires are self made and never went to school, also plenty of mediocre people never went to school either. Why don't you just give up, it's not worth fighting over.
So Bill Gates never went to Harvard University and Mark Zuckerberg never created Facebook in College?
probably not, but it would be way too much effort to look it up
meh, too much effort, and it probably wouldn't get me that much money anyways. Fuck it. (see how easy that was?)
You didn't gain anything out of it?
You didn't gain anything out of it?
get anything out of what? i meant if i tried to sell the dvds myself or make my own
How the hell can you stop wanting something? It would be like controlling feelings. I agree with Haxxer and I don't understand why you even posted this. The only thing you do is inspire people to give up.

Gain is what we all want in life.
