[US] Green Party Presidential Candidate Jill Stein Arrested at Keystone Pipeline Protest
Green Party presidential candidate Jill Stein was arrested Wednesday morning in east Texas while attempting to bring food and Halloween candy to protesters camping out in trees to oppose the Keystone XL pipeline, according to anti-pipeline activists.
Stein was taken to the Wood County jail and charged with criminal trespassing, a class B misdemeanor, said Kim Huynh, a spokesman for the Tar Sands Blockade.
Opponents of the pipeline have climbed some trees in the path of the pipeline in Winnsboro, Tex., and have been there for 38 days.
Stein's website said she and three other women were attempting to deliver “fresh fruits and vegetables, canned proteins, trail mix, and Halloween candy.” The site said Stein was handcuffed by officers who did not identify themselves as police. It was the first arrest for the Green Party candidate, a 62-year-old physician.
Before her arrest, Stein said in a statement that “the climate is taking this election by storm, breaking the silence of the Obama and Romney campaigns that have been bought and paid for by the oil, coal and gas companies.” She added, “Hurricane Sandy is just a taste of what’s to come under the climate destroying policies of Romney and Obama.”
Pipeline owner TransCanada already has the permits it needs for construction of the southern leg of the Keystone XL that will run from Cushing, Oklahoma, to the Texas Gulf of Mexico coast. The State Department is still weighing whether to approve the portion of the pipeline that would go from the Canadian border to Steele City, Nebraska.
As if she even has a chance of winning the election...
Nobody here wants it except for the creators and the businesses who benefit from it.

I don't think that's the point.

She's also sensationalizing Sandy too. It's not climate change at fault, it was the timing of three systems that made it stronger than it appeared.
didnt another group of green party members get arrested for trying to enter the presidential debate? i may be totally wrong here but whats with the lack of pluralism in american politics? itd be nice to see different perspectives or ideas brought forward by new political parties. i dont know anything about the green party but i think its important that other parties are taken a little more seriously as presidential candidates. having to choose between one of two parties kind of defeats the purpose of democracy, doesnt it?

You can always write in a candidate, but that's just going to be a drop in the water.

The average American cannot think for themselves, or most people are brainwashed by attack ads.. which imo should be banned.

This is why they spent fucking 1Bn on marketing, "if you're not rich you don't have a chance" is about right. Maybe I'm too Canadian and take democracy (somwhat) for granted.
I still have no idea why people would protest a single pipeline it's not even fracking with undisclosed chemicals or anything

The same person, as well as her vice presidential candidate were arrested for sitting outside the debate hall, after they had been barred from participated.
Seems a bit dumb to decry the minor parties for 'not having a chance' when there are mechanisms in place to ensure they never have a chance.
When it comes to alternative energy/nasa/gay marriage/abortion/some other shit I agree (at least according to a comparison test)
she was was protesting coal, and was in the "green party" I already know just from that that I wouldn't need a better reason not to vote
