• IE Platform Architect leaves Microsoft for Google
A seemingly ironic and untimely event, Chris Wilson, the man once dubbed the "IE Platform Architect" has now left Microsoft after working at Redmond for 15 years for the Internet search giant, Google. He will not be working on Chrome, at least for another year until his contract with Microsoft is up, but instead is being hired as a Developer Advocate. With the recent huge release of Internet Explorer 9 Beta, it is a mystery as to why Wilson chose right now to join Google. In a blog post, Wilson says that he "reached the conclusion that I’d helped IE along as much as I could, I felt it was a good time to reassess where I ultimately want to go with my career, and I realized that I really needed to stretch my wings beyond Microsoft. " Wilson's 15 year long journey began in 1995 when he joined Microsoft's Internet Explorer team, according to The Register. From there he became known as the "IE Platform Architect" and continued to improve the browser up to version 9, where he was the Principal Program Manager of the Open Web Platform and working with the team that built Internet Explorer 9's JavaScript engine, Chakra. Further on in the blog post, Wilson mentions how Google is one of the top innovators of the web and that he wants to work on continually building the consumer a better web platform. First he has written the software, and now his goals are for the web itself, although he would not give a clear cut reason for leaving.
Source: http://www.neowin.net/news/ie-platform-architect-leaves-microsoft-for-google ---- Didn't see that one coming.
With the recent huge release of Internet Explorer 9 Beta, it is a mystery as to why Wilson chose right now to join Google.
Nope. It's really not.
chrome suddenly becomes shit I'M KIDDING OKAY GOD
Nope. It's really not.
But the IE9 Beta is actually rather good.
I have a feeling Chrome may suddenly become worse Just sayin'
I have a feeling Chrome may suddenly become worse Just sayin'
I have a feeling that IE being shit is not entirely his fault. I'm sure there's more things at play over at Microsoft then just one man. [editline]04:20PM[/editline] He was probably like: "Gosh, everyone hates my team and product. Is continuing to lead this a good carrer path? NOPE!"
I’d helped IE along as much as I could
I'll bet these arnt his true thoughts on the matter.
Well It's not like he can suddenly become lead of the Chrome team and force then to make it worse, the more the better.
IT's all part of a plan to make Chrome shitty, then he'll come back to Microsoft :tinfoil:
Well that's a pretty good promotion, going from MS to Google. Pretty big jump. Grats to him.
um wow RUDE
Get over it. It's a small icon that means nothing.
It's always good to jump off sinking ships.
It's always good to jump off sinking ships.
IE's is resurfacing though.
I have a feeling Chrome may suddenly become worse Just sayin'
Yep all that guy's fault
IE's is resurfacing though.
Yeah, IE9 - The only browser that only works with Vista SP2 and Windows 7, I totally see that going far.
Yeah, IE9 - The only browser that only works with Vista SP2 and Windows 7, I totally see that going far.
What.
What.
It only works on Vista SP2 and Windows 7. There's no support for XP or *nix.
It only works on Vista SP2 and Windows 7. There's no support for XP or *nix.
Oh I misunderstood.
Get over it. It's a small icon that means nothing.
my face when some fag didn't understand my sarcasm
It only works on Vista SP2 and Windows 7. There's no support for *nix.
NO SHIT, a company making a product for its own OS wouldn't make it available on other OSes And by the way, XP is 9 years old, and it's time to stop supporting it.
NO SHIT, a company making a product for its own OS wouldn't make it available on other OSes And by the way, XP is 9 years old, and it's time to stop supporting it.
x1 Agree, Microsoft did the right thing here.
IE's is resurfacing though.
Eh, just an air bubble. Someone opens a hatch and WOOSH it starts sinking again. [editline]10:38AM[/editline] I still use XP on my server. I don't care about support, since I can fix almost everything I encounter anyway.
NO SHIT, a company making a product for its own OS wouldn't make it available on other OSes And by the way, XP is 9 years old, and it's time to stop supporting it.
They have no reason not to support it. They already have working code for the rendering. It's just going to make people switch to other better browsers, anyway. I doubt someone is stupid enough to buy a whole new OS to upgrade their browser.
Eh, just an air bubble. Someone opens a hatch and WOOSH it starts sinking again.
Don't be so pessimistic.
Don't be so pessimistic.
Why shouldn't I be? IE has had a pretty bad track record, with its different ways of rendering pages and having other lighter browsers with more and better features out there for the longest time. The only reason IE has a majority of the market share is that 1. people have never heard of using another browser other than the one that came with their computer, or 2. people are unwilling to switch to another browser, whether for compatibility issues or not being able to deal with learning to use a new browser. Most businesses, schools, and government institutions fall under the second one.
That doesn't mean it can't ever be good again.
I kinda have to agree, though. I mean, look at Windows 7. :/ MAYBE MS can pull something great again. We'll just have to see the final product.
