I would be very disappointed if it turns into a modern RTS that basically says fuck you to playing as a wall. That's the only reason why I hate modern RTS games. They're too fast paced. I was disappointed by Starcraft 2 and I don't want to be disappointed again.
I can hope that since they're remastering 3 of the previous games, that they don't lose sight in why those games, aoe 2 specifically, are insanely popular aoe 2 is a game that can both be played casually and competitively, which is why its so great.
No it should definitely be like the older Age of Empires, just with an upgraded UI and graphics in my opinion.
I will be the black sheep and say that I think they need to pay AoE3 some more love when designing AoE4. 2 was fun, but I always felt more attracted to the way 3 played.

But for me there's something about 3, feels kinda nice to play, it has a warmness to it. Two and one feel so, I don't know, sad? mellow? soulless? I can't really describe it but they are great games that for some reason I can't stand to play anymore.
i think it would be good to have a focus on 2, while taking some elements from 3. but the thing i want most is i really hope that each of the nationalities/civs you can play feel different. i liked the contrast of the western/eastern civs in aoe3
