Months ago, one of my laptops died, randomly, and ended up leaving a bad smell, then never letting itself be turned on again.
Now I wanted to bring it's screen back to life for a home project until I discovered this on the back.

Oe of the chips of the screen seems to have died too ( couldn't test if the screen still works yet) ), and burned through the foil.
Would the screen still work even if that chip is dead, or do I have to replace the chip?
If yes, then what kind of chip is it, where could I get the replacement, and how should I solder it?

also that really looks like a controller for it in which case you might be better off getting a new controller board for it, but how does this board relate to the screen? with out a diagram on how that is connected I don't think I can give you a good answer.[/QUOTE]
Judging by the looks of it, it's just layed ontop of the screens connectors, literally
yep, it is, glued together though. also connected via that one site connector.
