I need some help putting a server together. The main purpose of the server is to host a website that streams videos and have videos available for download. We're looking at about 5 - 10 TB of content. I live in the United States, Los Angeles, California.
I need at least three to five quotes for servers from $1,000 to $5,000. I built my own PC but I am not sure how to build a server. Newegg wishlist replies are fine.
For a 24/7 running server it's best to get a system builder. They know the right parts, what works, what doesn't etc. You don't want a server to keep failing.
Try apaqdigital.com. They are knowledgeable and built lots of servers for data centers, hosts and the like.
Will it be hosted in a datacenter or at home?
If it's in a datacenter, maybe it's worth to check out refurbished servers.
At home, it's pretty much like building your own PC keeping in mind the options to accommodate your needs.
For Example; if you want 10 TB of storage how are you gonna configure the storage? How many disks, in which RAID setting? What will the expected workload be: so which mainboard, CPU, how much RAM? Are you gonna go with real server hardware (Xeon/Opteron) or consumer hardware? Your choice of case will also depend on the amount of disks you will have. etc etc etc.
You gotta figure out your needs and requirements first.
I'm not so about that stuff. I know that this will be hosted in a home. I was hoping someone would help me go on about which parts to pick and why.
All I know, like I said in the OP, is that they want to host their own website with a bunch of video content that will have video available to stream and download. It will be running 24/7.
