Unblocking or sharing privelages to non-administrative computer accounts

I can not download/install software on my account for this computer. I'm not sure if it was my parent's doing or if the computer's programmed to not let anyone but an adminstrator to have this privelage. It's a great annoyance because I need to ask my parents to log-in to the account anytime I need to download something. I the password to the account but that's not good enough seeing as how if I left a download going I'd have to leave the account logged in, which will tell my parents that either me or the other parent logged in.
How do I grant this ability to my account via the admin? This would help tremendously.

Also I'm using Win 7 if that makes a difference
Standard user accounts will not have permission to install software to the Program Files directory(s). If your parents are more tech-savvy, they may have put you on a lower level account to prevent you from screwing stuff up.
If the stuff your installing doesn't require installing or editing system files or the registry, just install the programs into your Documents folder. Works fine for me at school.
Just noticed you said your in Windows 7. Just right click the installer program, and the say run as administrator. Type in the administrator account credentials and now the program has full admin access without logging out.
Download ophcrack(google it) put it on a cd and boot your computer from it. This will give you the admin password.

Yeah after six years of bruteforcing. Try ntpasswd instead.
Thanks a lot for your input guys. First real non-assholes who actually answered me in Facepunch in a long time
