A TEENAGE driver took a photo of a dying hit-and-run victim and posted it on Twitter for a joke.
Ikram Choudhury, 19, saw the man lying in the road but did not try to help or call 999.
Instead, after stopping his own car to look, he tweeted his photo at 1.56am yesterday.
He added the message: “Eeeehm wtf (what the f***)? Some guy just casually lying outside Ocean Terminal.”
Choudhury told his followers the man had been drunk.
When they asked why he didn’t try to help him, he joked that he had feared he would be sexually assaulted if he did.
Several Twitter users urged Choudhury to delete the photo and alert police.
One, Keanne Brown, asked if he had checked if the man was all right, then called him “sick” when he said he had not.
She wrote: “He might be dying and you left him for death.
“You should have seen if he was OK.”
The man Choudhury photographed in a bus lane in Leith, Edinburgh, was mortally wounded when a driver ran him over and failed to stop.
It’s understood he was lying in the bus lane when he was hit.
He lay without help for what may have been a critical 15 minutes until police arrived at 2.10am and called an ambulance. It’s understood officers gave him first aid while waiting for the paramedics.
The man was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary but died of head and internal injuries shortly afterwards.
His name will not be released until next of kin have been informed.
The Record has seen Choudhury’s picture but will not publish it. It remained on his Twitter feed for more than eight hours – until police told him to remove it.
Officers spoke to Choudhury yesterday afternoon at his parents’ Edinburgh home.
A detective who answered
the door confirmed they were interviewing the teenager, but refused to comment.
Choudhury could be prosecuted for failing to help the man but is not a suspect in the hit and run.
Police are looking for a silver Vauxhall Astra hatchback, possibly three-door, which was seen in the area at the time.
A spokesman said: “This has been a horrific accident. The driver fled the scene despite the car suffering damage to its underside and leaking engine coolant.
“The damage will be obvious to anyone who uses the car.
“We are appealing for anyone who recognises this car to come forward.
“In particular, we would like to hear from any service stations or other outlets who may have sold water or engine coolant to the driver of a silver hatchback in the early hours of this morning.”
After the accident, a trail of engine coolant led from the scene to the corner of Ocean Drive and Commercial Street, where a passing driver saw an eastbound car stopped with its bonnet raised.
Officers in paper forensics suits were at the scene yesterday, looking for evidence.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Lothian and Borders Police on 0131 311 3131 or the charity Crimestoppers on 0800555111.

What a fucking douchebag.
Off to jail with you.
Hit someone with a car? Twitter must know first.

Thats sickening. How many braincells does it take to realize the guy lying in the middle of a bus lane might be in danger?
Bystander Effect (or a variant of in this case) is more profound than most may think. You may see someone lying in the street, but as long as you don't turn enough attention to it, you can somewhat excuse your own conscience and just walk away with the typical "none of my business, must've been a drunk" ringing in your head. Honestly, how many of you can truthfully say you'd rush over and rile up half the block to help out. It's easy to judge when you have no personal experience. I've seen quite a few people just laying in the middle of butt-fuck nowhere. Most of them have turned out to be passed out bums who have nothing nice to say to you either for caring enough. Hell, I even gave money to one once and all they muttered was "Got more?".
Of course it's a different matter in this case, how ever, as even drunkards tend to not pass out in the middle of roads, but the kid not rushing to his aid is still understandable. Blame could equally be placed on every other person who walked by without a glimpse of care.

Bystander Effect only applies in crowds and become more pronounced in large crowds, this was one cunt driving along.
Fucking cunts man, sick and fucking tired of these scum sucking pricks in the world.
Things like this pisses me off. A while ago in Sweden a man died from a heartattack or something similar in a park, one bystander tried to help and when he shouted out that somebody should call for help somebody shouted back "Do it yourself if it is so damn important!", the poor man he was trying to save died because of that.
I'm a little confused, I doubt someone would do what this guy did...I mean, its saying...I mean...maybe he's really fucking dumb and thought he really was just laying there? How could someone think that was even funny to tweet? What the fuck man.

You severely over estimate the intelligence of the average human being.

Not really, actually, not at all. The general reasons why people are called stupid or whatever, is because of their ignorance, not their actual lack of mental ability. People are generally quite smart, but are guided in such a way that makes them ignorant to things that others find generally easy, and thus they give the impression of being an idiot...when all it is is that they don't know stuff, which can't really be blamed on them.
But uh, maybe this guy isn't average intelligence and is just plain stupid, a sadistic asshole, or just plain made an honest mistake (I doubt this one).

No really man, I live in Scotland and you'd be fucking surprised to discover that half of us actually haven't recently been living in caves, some of us are that thick and unfortunately give the rest of us a bad name.
a perfect example of why i fucking hate humanity

When somebody would have shouted that at me, I think I would have slammed him in the face out of pure frustration.
Don't think that it's the right thing to do so tho.

What do yo mean "first"? He took a picture and drove off.

Yes because this one prick represents the entire human race.
You're a perfect example of why I don't usually post in Sensationalist Headlines; "wow i lost faith in humanity fuck this world" in every second thread.
Do the world a favor and put yourself out of your misery if "humanity" bothers you so much.

Can't really blame him, he just doesn't have any other human interaction besides news articles, and he's not smart enough to realize why news articles are made, and why they only focus on the negative things in life.
Oh and he thinks that news articles are a representation of the current state of affairs in general life.
The world is full of really poor examples of humanity, the internet allows them to be more visible.

Well I mean, being thick is basically being really ignorant, not lacking comprehension skills.
Way to go, dude! Oh, I would love to roadkill someone myself! You can imagine it? Guts flying in the air, eyeballs popping out, blood all over my mask and bumpers! Ah, that would be a wonderful thing to watch! Twitting a man, that lies on the street with blood all over him while he is slowly dying! Genius! Rage and lulz ensue!
out of curiosity i would like to see the picture
he probably would have died anyway? why is nobody upset about the guy that hit him and drove off?
he probably would have died anyway? why is nobody upset about the guy that hit him and drove off?
Is that what you would do, not help him because he's probably gonna die anyway?
no, fuck it, just looked at your ban list, you're a troll, i'm out.
he probably would have died anyway? why is nobody upset about the guy that hit him and drove off?
I'm pretty sure they are upset about both people.
(I am).
It's just not worth mentioning because it's fairly obvious, and not what the main focus of this thread is.
he probably would have died anyway? why is nobody upset about the guy that hit him and drove off?
In a situation like that, every second counts; if twitter guy had called emergency services the poor guy in the road would have likely got help a whole lot quicker (according to the article, the guy tweeted at 1:56am and police arrived [note police, not medical personnel] at 2:10; that's 14 minutes right there, never mind the time it took for the ambulance to arrive because the police are the ones that called the ambulance).
Sure, the person that performed the hit and run is a dick too, but that's not what the article is about, and it sure doesn't excuse the guy who decided tweeting it was more important than helping the guy lying in the middle of the road.

What is wrong with you
If I saw someone lying in a road, I'd stop and pull him out, then phone an ambulance.
One of my friends saw a guy who had fallen off his bike and was unconscious on the side of a lonely road. He phoned an ambulance, performed CPR and mouth-to-mouth until the paramedics arrived. It turns out the guy had a heart attack, and according to the paramedics he would have died had it not been for my friend
What the Hell is 999?
Judging from the article this guy just seemed too fucking retarded to realize how serious it was. Can't cure stupidity.
