State seizes 11-year-old, arrests his mother after he defends medical marijuana during a school pres
The ordeal started when police and counselors at her 11-year-old son’s school conducted a drug education class. Her son, who had previously lived in Colorado for a period of time, disagreed with some of the anti-pot points that were being made by school officials. “My son says different things like my ‘Mom calls it cannabis and not marijuana.’ He let them know how educated he was on the facts,” said Banda in an exclusive interview with BenSwann.com. Banda successfully treated her own Crohn’s disease with cannabis oil.
After her son spoke out about medical marijuana, police detained him and launched a raid on Shona Banda’s home. “Well, they had that drug education class at school that was just conducted by the counselors… They pulled my son out of school at about 1:40 in the afternoon and interrogated him. Police showed up at my house at 3… I let them know that they weren’t allowed in my home without a warrant… I didn’t believe you could get a warrant off of something a child says in school.” Banda continued, “We waited from 3 o’clock until 6 o’clock. They got a warrant at 6 o’clock at night and executed a warrant into my home.
This is fucked up.
This is pure intimidation. There's no excuse for this at all.
Typical backwards logic and dis-information of a government funded program. D.A.R.E. is funded by the U.S. Department of Justice, U.S. Department of Defense, U.S. Department of State, U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, U.S. Bureau of Justice Administration, U.S. Office of Justice and Delinquency Prevention, corporations just to name a few.
I swear sometimes it's like schools in the U.S. are in a competition to see who has the most screwed up and power tripping officials in the country.
Is this not expression of free speech?

Its not just schools its almost every corner of the government.
The most harmless of drugs getting people in so much trouble it's insane.
Police and judiciary branch have totally lost sight of what values they're supposed to uphold.
They launched a raid on their home? Why?
What is gained from traumatizing this child, and teaching him that standing up for something can get you killed? All this will accomplish is cause a public backlash, a kid who's going to have trauma and communication issues, and cause other students to fear for the safety of their families when they talk about certain topics. It's insanity. If this isn't a reason for why cannabis should be legalized, and the discussion not being taboo, then I have no clue what would be!

According to the police it wasn't a raid
I contacted the Garden City Police Department to verify some of the details that have been reported online. A spokesman confirmed that officers had searched Banda’s home, though he denied it was a raid. He also said the initial anti-drug program was put on entirely by the school — the police had no involvement. At that event Banda’s son apparently contradicted some of the claims made about marijuana. The school then contacted the child protection agency, which then contacted the police.
But you are right, this is just another reason cannabis needs to be legalized.
This is fucking ludicrous. She might lose custody of her son for fucking medical cannabis?
Suck the biggest bag of dicks, Kansas.

For why they do this? To scare you into submission.

"It wasn't a raid, we just searched the place"
Yes just like "It wasn't murder, I only shot him"
The day that parents have a method of recourse against corrupt public schools will be a great day in America.

A part of me thinks it's the schools trying to hush students who may have points and disagree with their policy because of this, scaring them into silence through it...On the other hand, sometimes I can't tell if they're just doing it for the hell of it or not. Particularly after that one story about the 6-year old kid who was a minute late to class because his mother's car wouldn't start properly that day, so they separated him for everyone else at lunch that day and shamed him by putting a piece of cardboard in front of and made him eat alone.

Jesus Christ how does an adult person look at that and say, "Yeah, that look's about right, move along." Really I can't tell if there's some crazy point with school officials or if they're just actually terrible people who get off to traumatizing children.

More like the judges/magistrates. They're the ones who allow this to happen because they sign the warrant

Juveniles*
These are the death rattles of the criminalization of marijuana. I'd be surprised if it weren't legal by federal decree within the next 10 years, or at the very least legal in a large majority of states.

You can vocally and openly support weed all you want and won't be arrested for it, but if you say something that could be considered evidence of criminal activity then it can be used to secure a warrant. The kid's free speech rights weren't violated, the mother's rights against unreasonable search and seizure may have been violated, especially if they don't end up charging her with anything.

The employees that give drug tests at the local Office of Criminal Justice System don't even understand why they test for it. They let people go for positives all the time.
I've heard an employee there say "Why do we even test for this? It's legal 30 minutes away in D.C. This is stupid."

I see thier plan to create Newspeak via rendering citizens unable to think or say anything other than platitudes is under way.

Well shit, if it isn't the kids themselves bullying the hell out of each other, it's the officials being assholes.
When I was late to school (was quite a lot) I would get a detention, one where I would basically do homework or help around the principles office. Also, I was given one of those carboard setups often, but not for isolation, but rather to help me focus.
I just hope that kid wasn't too bothered by that. It's still pretty extreme, but at the same time it's possible it wouldn't be incredibly traumatic for him.

It's taken decades for gay marriage, something totally harmless with no negative effects whatsoever, legalised in most of the US. Whilst I think cannabis isn't any worse than smoking tobacco, it's still going to take a hell of a long time.

Less than 10 years ago, no one would have imagined that any state would be able to legalize marijuana within the decade. Now there are several states with it. It's likely to be a cascading issue. Too many people know the obvious truth about marijuana. It is not a schedule 1 drug. This obvious lie by the government is very annoying and very easy for them to remedy.
It's going to be a longer fight than a decade, but not by much really.
This is fucking sick. Nuke Kansas pls.
What fuckup of a judge granted that warrant and how many lawyers are lined up for this
