• Building Gaming Computer or Gaming Laptop

[sp]Honestly, I don't know the first thing about building Computers/Laptops. I don't know all the parts I would need besides, the casing, Motherboard, graphics card, sound card, RAM. Basic stuff. Also, when I say Computer, I mean as in having the whole tower, separate monitors, you know. "Generic" use of the word "computer". Though, I know most of you reading this, would probably know the difference and what I mean. Just thought I'd clear that out from the start.[/sp] First off, I haven't totally decided which I want to have more. The main reason I want to build a Laptop, is just because I usually go out to my grandparent's/dad's houses regularly, and I wouldn't wanna pick up my whole gaming set-up and bring it to their houses everytime I go. I realize I'm going to a family member's house. We do stuff during the day, but when it's night-time, I really don't do anything but watch TV, play Xbox, or occasionally hop in the pool with brothers/sisters/etc. I want to be able to play my PC games, without having to go through the struggle of taking my whole tower and everything over. This was my only problem I had with PC gaming before my Computer's Motherboard totally got fried. The reason I want to build a computer, is just mainly the parts pricing. I know that Laptops need different special parts, that usually cost more money than Computer parts. And I can actually play games with better graphics without spending more money than I would if I had a Laptop. Things I think you should know: [RELEASE]1: The main games I play on PC are TF2, L4D2, CS:S. 2: Of course, I do want to start buying new games besides Source based games. 3: When I do play, I play on a 15' MacBook Pro (Which is rare, since it's my brother's). 4: My uncle knows about building computers, so building it isn't a problem. (I realize it's pretty easy, but I'm still gonna consult him for some help. I have a history of breaking alot of things I touch or try to work on.). 5: Please don't reply with only saying which is better to build, without helping. If you have a helping post, and want to express your opinion on which is better, feel free. Just don't post stuff like "Computers are better to build." and just leave the thread without ever looking back. Help a noob out.[/RELEASE] Things I wanna know from the start: [RELEASE]1: How would a gaming Computer cost me? 2: How much would a gaming Laptop cost me? 3: List of all the parts I am going to need to buy to build my own gaming Computer. 4: List of all the parts I am going to need to buy to build my own gaming Laptop. 5: Is there anything else I should know? Again, I know nothing about building PCs.[/RELEASE]
You could get a gaming computer for that for $700 (inc all peripherals), but it would be advisable to spend more if you want to play some newer games such as BF3. For a laptop, you'd be looking more in the region is $1500 (?) for a decent gaming laptop. I would recommend you spend some on a good desktop and get a cheaper laptop for taking about with you. Notable parts you'll want for a desktop: Case (+Fans if appropriate) Power Supply Motherboard CPU (+Cooler) RAM GPU Disk drive Laptop-wise, it's pretty much the same but all in a smaller chassis. Bear in mind it's a lot harder to build a laptop yourself. (A LOT.)
If you're going to be moving around a lot, then I'd say go for some sort of Laptop that can run the games you want to play at a good rate. On the other hand, if you're away from a computer 2 days out of the week, then, personally, I'd go with a desktop. With a desktop you'd have more of an opportunity to customize it exactly how you want, and it's probably easier to upgrade, would you want to in the future. Laptop customization is more direct and you might be stuck with features you don't want or be missing out on features you would like. Then again, I know little about gaming laptops, so I could just be talking out of my ass.

Personally, I'd go through the trouble of hauling my desktop around, but I'm just that kind of guy, :v: Better performance for less cost. To me, it's worth it.
