A court has heard how the victim of a rogue travel agent was left stranded and forced to beg and steal for food on the streets of Cambodia.
The details emerged as Kathy Ward - who has admitted to 80 criminal charges, including fraud, forgery and theft - was due to be sentenced on Friday in Downpatrick Crown Court.
Ward from Tollymore Brae in Newcastle pleaded guilty to 80 charges, including 61 of fraud in April.
She owed customers thousands and the court heard how she would take cash from one customer to pay for the holiday of another.
Described in court as "a familiar face to those she defrauded", she was said to "invent lie after lie to cover her tracks".
Several of her victims did get their money back, however, others were left out of pocket.
A total of 25 attended court for the sentencing of the La Mon Travel agent boss, however that was put back for a further two weeks.
The court was told how when James Lappin decided to come home from a long trip in Cambodia in 2010 and tried to use a return ticket bought through La Mon Travel he couldn't because Ward had only purchased a one way ticket.
By then La Mon travel had closed down and he was left with no money and forced to beg and steal for food for two weeks.
The trial of the Co Down woman was the result of a four-year investigation by police.
And throughout the former air hostess denied any wrong doing.
that bitch is gun get it.
I don't understand why that James Lappin guy would go about begging and stuff for two weeks to get back. He should've immediately gone to his consulate/embassy and they'd have straightened it out and gotten him home.
Panicked.?
Sounds like a compulsive liar.

To be honest, I wouldn't think of that.
They could have also been possibly too far away.

To be honest, a lot of this stuff is printed right there in the passport itself - if you're in trouble, haul ass to the consulate andt the folks there will help you. Unless it's my country's consulate, where they'll tell you to go fuck yourself and stop being such a whiny bitch.
I can understand panic, but surely something is wrong when not a single other person who isn't as freaked out as you are didn't just tell him to go to his consulate. Hell, even if he made his way to the airport, he could've gotten consular assistance from the officer that's usually stationed there just for these sort of things. He could've even approached another country's consulate and they'd have helped him. Hell, even a phone call to his consulate would've helped him. The British and American consulates are known to be amazing to their expats and do verything within their power to help them, sometimes using pull from the local authorities to get things done.
Somehow this story doesn't come off too well for him, regardless of the excuses.

This guy doesn't exactly sound like the brightest person - he didn't make sure his ticket was a round trip ticket before going to Cambodia. It's completely possible he had no idea about his consulate rights.
Either way, ridiculously shitty of a travel agent to knowingly and willingly fuck over her customers. I hope she at least gets a year.
