• Mueller Reveals New Manafort Link to Organized Crime
Buried deep in Robert Mueller’s indictment of Paul Manafort is a new link between Donald Trump’s former campaign and Russian organized crime. The indictment (PDF), unsealed on Monday, includes an extensive look into Paul Manafort’s byzantine financial dealings. In particular, it details how he used a company called Lucicle Consultants Limited to wire millions of dollars into the United States. The Cyprus-based Lucicle Consultants Limited, in turn, reportedly received millions of dollars from a businessman and Ukrainian parliamentarian named Ivan Fursin, who is closely linked to one of Russia’s most notorious criminals: Semion Mogilevich. Mogilevich is frequently described as “the most dangerous mobster in the world.” Currently believed to be safe in Moscow, he is, according to the FBI, responsible for weapons trafficking, contract killings, and international prostitution. In 2009, he made the bureau’s Ten Most Wanted Fugitives list. “Ivan Fursin was a senior figure in the Mogilevich criminal organization,” Taras Kuzio, a non-resident fellow at Johns Hopkins-SAIS’ Center for Transatlantic Relations and a specialist on the region told The Daily Beast. Martin Sheil, a retired criminal investigator for the IRS, said the indictment, with its connections to Fursin, helps illuminate the murky world Manafort operated in before taking the reins of Trump’s presidential bid. “This indictment strongly indicates the existence of a previously unknown relationship between an alleged Russian organized crime leader and Mr. Manafort,” Sheil told The Daily Beast.
SOURCE: https://www.thedailybeast.com/mueller-reveals-new-manafort-link-to-organized-crime
Headline is somewhat misleading; the Lucicle Consultants transactions were detailed in the original indictment papers released earlier this week. No new information has been released by Mueller, but this article does provide some very intriguing context.
Wheeeeewieeeee, and here I thought it couldn't get any worse. He just had to have possible dealings with the Russian fucking Mob. He's so toast, it's unbelievable.
Not Paul Manafort, but Trump Campaign Manager Paul Manafort. The man who ran Trump's campaign was a money launderer for the Russian mob, and a proxy agent for Putin's Ukrainian puppet government. Trump is so fucked. [editline]2nd November 2017[/editline]
Headline is somewhat misleading; the Lucicle Consultants transactions were detailed in the original indictment papers released earlier this week. Now try and fire Mueller so we can get this party started.
Now try and fire Mueller so we can get this party started.
Rumor has it they're trying a more roundabout strategy -- forcing the resignation of Mueller for a "conflict of interests" by appointing a special counsel to go after Hillary Clinton's Uranium One deal, which Mueller was at least tangentially involved in. It's a desperate strategy that won't work, but it's really the only thing left that they can try to do without overtly attempting to obstruct justice. They can't appear to be attacking the investigation, but they can try to smear and undermine the investigator. Trump's White House is in a state of sheer panic right now. Bannon, who still has Trump's ear despite his official separation from the administration, is demanding that Trump do anything he possibly can to prevent Mueller from getting a, "clean shot on goal." Trump is apoplectic, blaming anybody and everybody around him, including his own son-in-law, Kushner. The administration is crumbling to fear and infighting. The major downside to what's going on right now is the GOP is desperate to reclaim credibility, which means that this godawful tax reform they've been cramming to finish the past few days will almost certainly pass. Hidden among it are, according to rumors, a repeal of the ACA's Individual Mandate, and a repeal of the rule disallowing churches from contributing to political campaigns (which would allow tax-exempt religious institutions to funnel money to GOP candidates). On its face, they can say it's a tax cut, but in actuality those of us at the lower end of the economic spectrum will suffer immensely. Despite how shitty this bill is, the GOP desperately needs a "win," and will almost certainly unanimously approve the legislation so that they can appear as if they still have some semblance of control over our government. If they actually somehow fail to pass this, it would prove complete congressional chaos. As one reporter asked Paul Ryan, "if you fail to pass this today, can you claim to deserve to control congress?" Ryan's response? "What's your next question?"
