Yahoo Account disabled, not receiving vertification code.

Yesterday I received a email from Yahoo telling me they detected suspicious activity on my account and "temporarily" disabled my account. It said I can go on their website and log in. So I did and was greeted with a window saying I need to vertify it's me, I can either send a email to my gmail account or answer the security question I set up in 2009. The problem is that I don't remember what my answer to my question was. I tried having a code sent to my gmail but I never received the email. I tried checking my spam folder but it's empty. Is there anything else I can do or is my Yahoo account gone forever?
I stopped using yahoo after they deleted my important account that started to receive 50k messages in spam a month. I had a similar issue when I couldn't login at first-- it'd never send the recovery email. I really hate not to sound helpful, but try contacting yahoo support.
