My optimistic rail trip around the UK starts today, but will it end?

As many of you may already know, I'm going on a trip around the UK to see the places I haven't seen before and take lots of nice photographs. This involves a couple of FP meetups in Edinburgh tomorrow afternoon and in Manchester the day after.

This is going to involve over 3,000 miles of train travel which, even for someone like me who enjoys train travel, is starting to seem pretty daunting.

My plan is, after the Facepunch meetups, to get a sleeper train into the scottish highlands, climb some mountains and shit, take pictures, and basically repeat this everywhere around the country in different places. I doubt anywhere will seem as awesome as the highlands, but who knows what will happen?

I'll be taking Ferries, buses and undoubtedly some taxis too, to connect gaps with no rail lines.

Anyway, you get the idea. Call me crazy, but I think it will be a fun challenge, meeting people along the way and documenting it with some nice photographs, all of which I will post here when I get home next Saturday.

I'll be posting periodical updates about my location to this thread, my [url=twitter.com/bengley]Twitter[/url] and my facebook, and some crappy phone pictures along the way.

Anyway, I'm leaving my home this evening to catch the 11.50pm sleeper train to Glasgow. Expect plenty of updates because I'll undoubtedly have insomnia.
