A machete-wielding man, reportedly high from huffing a can of Dust-Off keyboard cleaner, startled east Flagstaff commuters Monday morning when he jumped into traffic and started to attack cars. The same 22-year-old man was arrested last year after he hit two people with bullet fragments when he fired a gun into the ground following an argument on an eastside street. It was the man's fifth arrest since August. According to a police report, calls started coming in from drivers whose cars had been struck by the machete man at about 9 a.m. One of the callers said they thought the man was going to kill or seriously harm someone. "I spoke with a female who had first seen the subject in the middle of the road and she stated he was acting crazy and then ripped off his jacket, pulled out a machete and started spinning around and swinging it like he was antagonizing people to fight him," an officer wrote in a report. Another witness watched the man throw the can of Dust-Off he was huffing out into the street and then jump into a trash can at the corner of North East Street and East Johnson Avenue. When officers arrived, the man had his hand hidden inside a cardboard box. The man dropped the box when instructed to but started stuffing a handful of chips into his mouth. "It takes a lot of you (expletives)," the man reportedly yelled at police. When police read him his Miranda rights, he replied by howling like a dog and then yelling expletives. Delano Colmenero was booked into the Coconino County Detention Facility on charges of felony criminal damage, felony inhaling a vapor-releasing substance, disorderly conduct with a deadly weapon and littering. Colmenero was arrested last year when an argument in a trailer park across from the mall led him to pull out a gun and start shooting the ground. Fragments from the bullet scattered and shrapnel struck a man and a woman standing nearby. The two were taken to Flagstaff Medical Center and treated for minor injuries to their lower legs. Colmenero was later caught during a traffic stop in Yavapai County and arrested on charges of disorderly conduct with a deadly weapon and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. The aggravated assault charge was dismissed. Records from the Arizona Department of Corrections show that Colmenero was sent to prison on the disorderly conduct charge in September of last year with a maximum release date set for one year. He was released in April of this year, despite two disciplinary infractions while he was in prison. One of the infractions was for stealing. Information from the police department indicates he has been arrested five times since August, with one of the arrests happening while he was on probation. He was arrested for disorderly conduct and assault on Oct. 1. Eric Betz can be reached at 556-2250 or ebetz@azdailysun.com. That must have been a lot of Dust-off cleaner.
It's how Fidel won the throne to Cuba.
Hey! I live there!
Sounds like the guy around here sniping cars on the freeway. Got to love Detroit.

Surprised this didn't happen in southern AZ, Flagstaff is just a smallish college town. [editline]1st November 2012[/editline] My sister lives up there :(
