I work for the parent company of one of AOLs largest dialup wholesalers. Pretty surprised to hear this and a scared bit of what this might do to their traffic
Way to piss away 4 bill.
Way to piss away 4 bill.
Gaining a 2 million subscriber-base and a shitload of entertainment groups isn't exactly pissing away 4 billion.
AOL, famous for posting compact discs for its services through thousands of letterboxes in the 1990s, still has two million customers for its slower dial-up internet service.
Why do so many people still use dial-up? Is it the cheapest option for internet access, or is it the only option in some places?

The only true alternative is sattelite, which has massive latency and packet loss issues
Lol America online. Guess all those disks had to go somewhere after America stopped using AOL
I remember a while ago, this guy posted pictures of a Coffee Table he made entirely out of those AOL discs. I used them when I was in 9th grade. And every time my trial was about to expire I'd call them up saying I wasn't really satisfied with the service, and they gave me an extra 6 months every time, it was insane. I even got some weird modem in the mail that was supposed to "boost" my connection for free too. It's kindof weird looking back then, and hearing about AOL & AIM making people nostalgic. Christ it doesn't feel that long ago.
