looks as if he will give it a go. In 2015, the pope will issue a lengthy message on the subject to the world’s 1.2 billion Catholics, give an address to the UN general assembly and call a summit of the world’s main religions.
According to Vatican insiders, Francis will meet other faith leaders and lobby politicians at the general assembly in New York in September, when countries will sign up to new anti-poverty and environmental goals.
In recent months, the pope has argued for a radical new financial and economic system to avoid human inequality and ecological devastation. In October he told a meeting of Latin American and Asian landless peasants and other social movements: “An economic system centred on the god of money needs to plunder nature to sustain the frenetic rhythm of consumption that is inherent to it.

“The system continues unchanged, since what dominates are the dynamics of an economy and a finance that are lacking in ethics. It is no longer man who commands, but money. Cash commands.
“The monopolising of lands, deforestation, the appropriation of water, inadequate agro-toxics are some of the evils that tear man from the land of his birth. Climate change, the loss of biodiversity and deforestation are already showing their devastating effects in the great cataclysms we witness,” he said.
Francis will also be opposed by the powerful US evangelical movement, said Calvin Beisner, spokesman for the conservative Cornwall Alliance for the Stewardship of Creation, which has declared the US environmental movement to be “un-biblical” and a false religion.
“The pope should back off,” he said. “The Catholic church is correct on the ethical principles but has been misled on the science. It follows that the policies the Vatican is promoting are incorrect. Our position reflects the views of millions of evangelical Christians in the US.”

very long quote, but the pope is urging Catholics to consider the consequences and listen to the science behind climate change instead of plugging their ears
All I can hear is movie trailer voices saying 'He's Earth's last hope for survival'.

in Morgan Freeman's voice
"he is, and was...earth's last best hope"
Mate, if the Pope saves the world I will lose my mind.
Chief among the church's new goals with respect to climate change is the decimation of frankincense fumes by 2025.
POPE FRAAAAAANK

Seems like a lot of work. Why doesn't he just tell God to fix a thing or two ?
Good, it's ridiculous to ignore climate change.

He's not in the same state of euphoria as you it seems.
Man, the more I hear about Pope Frank the more I like the guy. He's not perfect but he's light years ahead of previous Popes and I have huge respect for him.

Evangelical Christians giving no credence to science, nothing new there.

And directing that to the POPE, who has a way bigger following?

sounds exciting.
I'm sorry, but what the fuck does "Cornwall Alliance for the Stewardship of Creation" have to do with modern geological phenomena?

Creation
Creation
here I thought creation was more to do with protecting the biblical account of the Creation of the earth, not its current atmospheric processes.
here I thought creation was more to do with protecting the biblical account of the Creation of the earth, not its current atmospheric processes.
Silly foreigner, that's not how things work in America!
There's no money in that.
Pope Francis is the pope the world deserves

I'm pretty sure it has something to do with the fact that god promised never to flood the earth again, so the ice caps melting can't possibly be a threat.
He has been AFK since day 7.
He's probably just taking an ungodly shit

God said HE wouldn't flood the earth again, he didn't say he would stop us from doing it.

This isn't exactly the realm of logical conclusions.

Oh God, you tricky bugger!

I imagine it being like the creation of the Fellowship of the Ring, except in this one we'll have two Christians, a Muslim, a Jew, a pagan and four Buddhists travelling together and trying to solve global warming.
[editline]28th December 2014[/editline]
And they all have to be super stereotypes. Crusader, jihadist, rabbi, witch and four Shaolin Monks.

Love how he said this when the Bible clearly outlines "Being Good Stewards of the Earth".

I'm pretty sure one of his promises was that he wasn't going to flood the earth again. Infact, in the Bible, he used a rainbow to signify that.

I'd read it, then watch the movie and lament how terrible an adaptation it is and say that Peter Jackson would have done it better.
Thanks, Papa Franku

You might notice some nut cases will say things along the lines of 'we should pollute more, because pollution is food for plants' (nevermind our emissions are environmentally unsustainable at their current level and growth). Actually the platform of a political party here.
Because Catholics totally listen to everything the pope says...
Still, though, this is excellent. Cool Pope is cool.

Did you even bother reading the post you quoted? Because Helix kinda said exactly that. "God said HE wouldn't flood the Earth again" The second part of Helix's post has exactly nothing to do with God or his promise.
