NEW YORK (AP) - A New York City cab driver has racked up the fare of a lifetime. Mohammed Alam is being paid $5,000 to drive a pair of friends to Los Angeles. The trio left Saturday night and had reached Las Vegas by Thursday. Investment banker John Belitsky, of Leonia, N.J., tells the New York Post that the idea was hatched during a birthday celebration for Dan Wuebben of Queens. Belitsky said they wanted to do something "magical." When they decided on a cab ride to California, they found Alam at LaGuardia Airport and brokered the deal. The two friends haven't decided how they'll get back yet. As for the cab driver, he says a friend will meet him in Los Angeles and help him make the drive home.
http://www.wavy.com/dpps/news/strange_news/nyc-cabbie-drives-2-guys-across-us-for-5000-ob11-jgr_3784535
Wow! His fare might just barely cover the cost of the gas that he used getting them there!
Um i'm not sure if spending $5000 for a complete stranger to drive me across the US is really what I would call 'magical' but eh. Lucky cabbie though.
That's a pretty fresh cab.
Oh and in case nobody gets my image. It's because in Fresh Prince he basically did the same thing, went from New York to California, all in a cab. [editline]24th April 2011[/editline] Broken automerge
Wow! The NYC taxi fleet consists of mainly crow vics, with a few ford escapes. The crown vic gets about 20 mpg, while the escape gets around 35. I'll give gas prices a generous amount of $4.00 per gallon, and let's do the math. Crown vic takes 2793 / 20 = 139.65 gallons of gas, which costs $558.6 Escape takes 2793/35 = 79.8 gallons, which costs $319.2 And that's being generous on the cost of gas. Not even close, buddy.

Looks like Roman's taxi is really useful.

How many times did they have to go bowling to get him to do this? [editline]24th April 2011[/editline]
Looks like Roman's taxi is really useful.
HEY FUCK OFF DICK :bahgawd:
no he didn't
FFFUUUUU. East Coast to West Coast. Close enough.
FFFUUUUU. East Coast to West Coast. Close enough.
Yet again, no he didn't. He took a plane from Philadelphia to LA, and then he took a cab to Bel-Aire, which is a suburb of LA.
Only in the shortened version, in the long intro he gets on a plane.
Not in the shortened version, either. When he gets into the cab in both versions, he's in front of the Hollywood sign.
Sounds fun (exploring the USA, not the taxi ride with a stranger) but way to expensive.

Let me get this straight... They picked up the cab driver at an air port? Where they could have flown to Las Vegas within hours and for 1/10th the cost?

A buddy comedy coming to theaters this summer
This seems like it would be the worst birthday idea ever.
This would own. It would be like staring in a lame buddy comedy, except with an actual stranger and your actual friend.
