Propane truck collides with train in Bumfuck Nowhere, MN; explodes
The semi tanker is currently on fire, according to Sergeant Jesse Grabow of the Minnesota State Patrol. Officials say they will let the tanker burn out the 9,000-some gallons of propane.
The bigger concern comes from a tank sitting nearby at the elevator, which officials say is holding another 10,000 gallons of propane. Fire crews are working to keep it cool, to avoid an explosion.

Two members of the train crew sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were both taken to Essentia Hospital in Detroit Lakes, where they were treated and released Thursday afternoon.
According to Canadian Pacific the dude never stopped for the train. The explosion happened hours after emergency services were on scene and no one was injured from it.
The questions are I guess..
Was weather the Railroad barriers have risen or not to warn the truck driver, the truck driver didn't care about them at all and tired to beat the train, or there were just no barriers to begin with.

DOT HAZMAT placarded vehicles are required by federal law to stop at all rail crossings regardless of signal status. Barring mechanical failure with the truck, this was the driver's fault.
Woah, so the driver survived his vehicle full of propane being hit by a train?

It looks like the train hit the trailer only, unless this is just another tractor there for whatever reason.

so if a train hits a trailer in the middle of nowhere and nobody's around to hear it, did it make a sound?

To answer your question: Yes, and no. Depends on how close you were at the time and if your eardrums are intact after the thing fucking exploded. [sp]Which is why they evacuated the nearby town, two injuries from the train crash itself, no fatalities from the explosion.[/sp]

Its funny because there was just a big emergency services training going on in northern MN regarding train derailment involving oil/hazardous materials
I live 30~miles from this particular part of buttfuck nowhere, MN. I think it's pretty silly how the trucker survived relatively unharmed yet the train engineers were the only ones to get hurt. Seems almost backwards with train+vehicle collisions.

Not really when you consider the fact only the trailer got hit,
I wonder how much sleep the driver had? I know some companies will force you to drive bullshit hours on little to no sleep.

Actually most companies track drivers by GPS to make sure they only drive so many hours/miles a day. The independent guys do it to themselves

Isn't it required by law to use and abide by tachograph hour rules in the US, regardless if you're a sole proprietor?
