• Trying to reformat a USB drive with write protection. Help?

A little while ago I found an old 16 GB USB drive of mine, and I wanted to use it again. Well, when I plugged it in, it said the device is not formatted and it suggests that I format it. Sure, I do that, but at the end it says it is write protected and cancels the format. Now I am at a loss of what to do. Googling the problem seems to offer the solution of downloading this program but that program claims that it can't detect a USB. This is the USB drive that I have: My OS is Windows XP with service pack 3 Any help would be much appreciated!
Maybe the switch on the USB is locked.
That's what I read on some forums that had a similar problem on their USB drive, but this drive doesn't have a switch (at least on the outside). Do I need to remove the case the USB is in to look for a switch?
I have one laying around from Saints Row 2 that came with write protection. :downs: [editline]20th November 2010[/editline] Why would anyone even consider putting write protection on a USB drive?
