hi i have a samsung galaxy s1 and last week it started to have a very poor battery life. the cause of this was android os using up about 50% of the batter. during the day i could feel it heating up due to cpu usage. ive tried restarting the phone many times and sometime it will work. It always happens when it gets unplugged, it will not heat up while it is pluged in. im running android 2.3.3, it only started after i put 2.3.3 on it.
Uh. Okay? Are you asking how to fix it? [editline]28th August 2011[/editline] Because if you are, you can try rooting and underclocking it to reduce some of the heat. Or loading a new kernel.
Turn off Automatic Synchronization and GPS, WIFI and Bluetooth if you don't use them, also don't forget to turn off applications you ain't using. Automatic Synchronization uses your battery really fast.

Your best bet is a custom rom, I've had quite a few problems with samsung roms
Your best bet is a custom rom, I've had quite a few problems with samsung roms
This may be a noobish question but do you lose all ur apps and data? If so im not going to do it since i dont want to lose all my apps
Achieve root, use Titanium backup for all your applications (non-system only!). You can then install a custom ROM and keep everything.

There's always a way to root an Android device, be it temporary or permanent.
Android 2.3.3 along with Galaxy S has been rooted long ago, use Google
Can someone explain to me what "Rooting" means please?
Can someone explain to me what "Rooting" means please?
Allowing access to your phones root directory. The folder before your SD card if you prefer
In addition to the previous post, it gives you access to things like changing system files and installing new roms. There's a modification which lets non-tegra devices play tegra games, but you have to be rooted to do it. It's nice to be rooted as you know there'll never really be a limitation to what you can do with your phone

Basically all android phones right now restrict you to a guest account. With root, you get administrator privileges. Superuser (the application) is basically UAC for Android. Root lets you do many things to your phone that would not normally be allowed, ie. overclocking, system backup, writing to the system partition, etc etc.
This is a problem I have had too. Rebooting the phone is a temporary fix, and this bug is apparently non existent in Cyanogen Mod (Can't confirm as I've fixed it already, and I use Darky) http://www.darkyrom.com/community/index.php?threads/v10-rc5-android-os-process-battery-drain.2546/ That worked for me on Darky rom and the stock Samsung rom (Before I flashed).
