Monster Hunter's Elder Dragons can change entire weather patterns, create storms and localized natural disasters, the biggest of which have to be fought while climbing up and down mountains and some of which have essentially small plagues surrounding them or siege gear impaling them. I have high hopes for Dauntless but they'll have to pull out some pretty impressive stops to go "toe-to-toe with Monster Hunter."
I'd say their biggest advantage right now is that they're on PC, a platform that is currently devoid of Monster Hunter games. Monster Hunter World is coming but that's still at least a year off.
They better have the game in a good state and release before that new Monster Hunter game or I feel it's gonna get buried... there's just no way it's gonna have as much content as a MH game so releasing earlier is the biggest advantage it's gonna get.
I'll play both, but I get the feeling Dauntless will become very Pay to win over time and that'll be it's eventual downfall.
It's not gunna come close to Monster Hunter in quality though, especially given this is just a small studio and the people making Monster Hunter have a shit load of experience making them and significant financial backing, it's different in a lot of ways as well, still, the more Monster Hunter style games the better on PC.
