http://www.fudzilla.com/content/view/17158/65/ AMD is demoing its latest XGP solution using the just-released 40nm Mobility Radeon HD 5870 codenamed “Broadway.” In review, it features a 700MHz core, a total of 800 stream processors, 1GB of GDDR5 at 1,000MHz, EyeFinity support and a TDP rating of 50W. Pretty cool!
Great for all those people that are too scared to open their machines of have laptops. It's about time someone brought something like this out, there's been a gap in the market (and a demand) for a long time.
cool. i don't think I'd want to carry around that with my laptop.. although, I don't play games on my laptop so it would not matter to me anyway. [editline]09:12PM[/editline]
Great for all those people that are too scared to open their machines of have laptops.
huh?
I think it is obvious that he meant "or have laptops." the f is right bellow the r.

Yeah, will be cool if they have some way to open up the box to put in another graphics card like a 6870 (If that ever happens) .
This is meant to have on a desk attached to a monitor so you carry the laptop around but when you want to game you set the laptop on the desk and connect up.
Wait what? Doesn't that kind of defeat the object? You may as well carry a mini ATX with you.
This is meant to have on a desk attached to a monitor so you carry the laptop around but when you want to game you set the laptop on the desk and connect up.
oh, well now it's even more useless.
I wouldn't say it is useless it is like a docking station cause not often you game while on battery and so you get portability and the ability to game on it if you like.
I guess this would be good for people with desktop replacements that need a little more graphics power.
50 watts? Holy shit
50 watts? Holy shit
That's terrible, my LED monitor only draws half that when using 100% brightness. :P
no, it's great
That's terrible, my LED monitor only draws half that when using 100% brightness. :P
Wow thats a shitty LED monitor, it should be drawing like 5 watts. You sure you don't mean LCD, OLED screens are a ways off. I prefer my CRT with it energy star compliant 120 watts, fear its power and ability to actually show the color black.

I have an Acer 24" monitor to compare to. n_n YOU GUYS ARE WANKERS
when external graphics cards can use non-proprietary connectors like ExpressCard34, then I'll be impressed. Anything would be better than this pathetic GeForce 6150 that's in my laptop.
Well am stuck with a shitty ATI X1300 in my laptop, Altough i have a GTX285 on my main rig
lol, mobility card on a laptop with eyefinity. How would that work, and does that mean their trying to make laptops into main gaming/etc systems?

Also back on topic, this stuff is interesting, but not really useful to 99% of the PC users.
Shame it's going to be hideously expensive
I wish it worked with a wider standard such as eSATA
I wish it worked with a wider standard such as eSATA
eSATA and most wider standards don't have nearly enough bandwidth for mid-high end graphics card.
We've had this kind of thing for a long time.
Care to enlighten me? My laptop could do with a bit of extra graphics power.
Wait what? Doesn't that kind of defeat the object? This could be useful. If you only want to own a laptop, you can keep the external card at home connected to your big monitor and have the laptop with decent battery life with you. It could also keep heat away from the other components, making them last longer and keeping your balls from turning into cashews. Seems like a nice alternative to having a gaming PC.
Care to enlighten me? My laptop could do with a bit of extra graphics power.
The ASUS XG Station was out for a while but it only came with an 8600GT and was about $375. It was removed from the market. The other one that I'm pretty sure is still selling is called the Lava Box or something like that. It's also pretty expensive.
