• Better to buy an AM2+ processor for an AM2+/AM3 DDR2 motherboard?

My motherboard supports AM2/AM2+/AM3, and i'm not sure if I should get an AM2+ or AM3 processor, as I have DDR2 and not DDR3. Would an AM3 processor be noticeably slower if it was used with DDR2? Also, I've read some reviews of people upgrading from older style AM2 processors to new AM3 ones, like the Phenom II X4 965, have been getting slower performance or no performance boost at all. Why would this happen? I'm upgrading from an Athlon X2 6000+, so I don't want to end up with this happening.
check compatibility with your motherboard on the manufacturer's website, because since you're using an old motherboard, you will likely need to update its BIOS to take new CPUs. (if there are any) and no, the performance impact of DDR2 vs DDR3 is negligible as far as I know.
