Pedestrians in Spain could soon be breathalysed and made to obey speed limits
Pedestrians in Spain could soon be breathalysed and made to obey speed limits in proposals by officials hoping to make the country’s streets safer.
The plans have sparked a dispute, with the government’s top advisory council calling it a violation of Spaniards’ rights.
Earlier this year, Spain’s Directorate General of Traffic, the government body responsible for managing traffic, proposed a new “tool to foster better relations and coexistence between pedestrians, cyclists, motorists and vehicles”.
Tucked between suggestions for increased fines for drunk-driving and better regulation of driving schools was a change that would define pedestrians as “users of the road”, putting them on a par with drivers.
Pedestrians could be required to take on-the-spot alcohol and drug tests if implicated in a traffic accident or traffic offence.
The proposal also sets out a speed limit for pavements, limiting the pace to “not surpassing that of a normal stride”.
gotta make sure I'm walking 60km/h with the traffic and not going too fast else I'll cop a fine
Then Spain becomes the most obese country in the world, simply because people can't jog.
I don't think they understand what the word pedestrian means.
What the fuck. What kind of proposal is that?
The fuck is this shit. :v:

Does this apply to the police too? Are we going to see people chasing each other at walking pace?
Next they'll make it illegal to have your zipper undone.

It's like some outlandish sketch. Can't wait to see a cop and a criminal walking leisurely with the cop waving his fist about in the air yelling "Stop! In the name of the law!"
Remember kids, don't drink and walk
the bane in spain is walking slowly in a lane
so is this, like, the joke party's doing or what
Excuse me sir, stop, are you drinking and walking?

Make sure you also walk in a straight line, it's how they catch you out.
As if anyone's going to obey this
I thought for sure this would be an Onion article. :v:
No law can stop me from running! Sonic the Hedgehog would not like to visit Spain if such laws were enact
This is like an entire list of trivial bullshit. What next? You're not allowed to use the pavement when you hold two shopping bags in your hands, you're immediately arrested for walking out at night unless you have a torch with a visible beam of at least 5m, if you try to overtake a disability scooter you're held in custody.
Bu-but I gotta go fast :(

"Pedestrians could be required to take on-the-spot alcohol and drug tests if implicated in a traffic accident or traffic offence."
The alcohol thing only applies if they're part of an incident, basically if you wander onto the road, almost get hit by a car and cause a car accident, the cops can breath test you to see if the whole thing happened because you were a drunken idiot.

But the article even says that the Police already had the power to do that and did so, and doesn't need this spelled out in a new law.
This is the kind of shit we're fed by the government everyday, so honestly, i'm not even surprised.
I wish they would bring in minimum speed limits for cunts who are in a group who form a line in the pavement and fucking crawl to where they wanna go while stuck to their phone.
just move for fucks sake i have to get to a customer.
People have different length legs and average speeds of walking. This is silly.
I injured my hip recently (I'm not even an old man omg) by walking 45 minutes to work at my fastest walking pace (literally pushing myself to the walking limit) 3 days a week.
Speed limits save lives okay people

Or those families that take up the entire footpath or supermarket aisle
So... what are they going to do during the running of the bulls?
So uh... what the hell are they going to do during the running of the bulls?
Tell the bulls to slow down and maybe threaten them with a fine or something.
...ok
but i'll warn you, my normal stride is like 5 mph because its fucking cold outside and i want to get to my warmish university quickly
My country has been passing some shitty laws recently.
I just want podemos to win and fix this quick.
All Spanish citizens are surgically implanted with a speedometer to ensure that they don't walk at above 6km/h on side paths and 8km/h on high streets.
