Uplay needs to be rethought from the ground up, or better yet killed off entirely, if it is to escape being thought of as another Games For Windows Live.
Ubisoft really needs to understand this.
I have 3 nVidia promo game keys still unused JUST because they were activated from Uplay :v:
uplay is ok imo, I like their "DLC" system in which you can unlock small DLCs by gaining achievements.

Yeah, I like that way better than those awful steam badges.
Porn filter is blocking the word "bi" to protect the innocent.

Or play, because it shows up so often in place of masturbation. I think maybe that porn filter is using Urbandictionary or some shit at this point
I'd like to point out to the few reading this that don't know shit about technology, while always-online DRM is bullshit, the real problem here is an immoral censorship filter gone rogue.
Censorship is never acceptable.
The fact that the writer doesn't know shit about technology annoys me a little though. This line especially:
I’ve now been able to use a VPN service to trick Uplay into thinking I’m on a different ISP and finally have access to Might & Magic X
That's not what a VPN does.
Using a VPN would cause the data to appear to be coming from a different provider though.
The article is pretty bad though, complaining about Uplay and how we should all just use Steam, while ignoring that Steam is just as susceptible to being blocked by an ISP.
Never had a single problem with Uplay, except for once. But that was my fault (somehow had multiple accounts and was confused when my games disappeared when I accidentally logged into my other account) and support was extremely fast, friendly and effective at helping me (merging my accounts).
The only reason I prefer Steam to Uplay is because of the larger discounts, larger catalog and larger library of games I already own on the service.

indeed
haha, what, you can't trick your ISP with a VPN, they'll block what they want no matter what or where your PC is (or says it is)
U- play has a few good ideas, I like the whole gaining points from achievements and spending them on in game and out of game rewards. If Steam didn't exist, I would use UPlay over Origin any day.
Only game I have that uses UPlay is Anno 2070.
It's kind of annoying that I have to have both Steam and UPlay on to play the game but besides that I've never had any problems with it.

GTA IV on steam has to login to R* social club and GFWL. I love DRM free stuff like stuff from GOG because when I live in Norfolk (UK) and it's very common to lose broadband every now and then in my area of NF. If I always have to login or always have to be online, I' m not going to get much game time in.

Actually, not really. With a VPN you're connecting to a remote computer using a completely encrypted connection and you ISP doesn't have the slightest idea what you're doing and can't block shit. The remote computer's ISP on the other hand could of course do that (but won't).

Yeah looks like I totally forgot about encryption (though if they want they can just disable all encrypted traffic)

And make half the internet not work?

encrypted traffic to your pc I meant
edit: lol what's wrong with that, bandwagon-punch?
If Steam didn't exist, I would use UPlay over Origin any day.
The thing is if steam didn't exist to set some sort of standard what we would have today would most likely be way worse

Which is any website using HTTPS (Facebook, Google, Steam, etc). They might as well just have a whitelist of IPs you're allowed to connect to which would be North-Korea-level internet censorship.

Our government here seriously considered forcing ISPs to block anything encrypted. Since we already have laws for blocking websites with very little reason or evidence, I wasn't surprised.
