Would this mean that any game on Steam would work on a MAC? Not that I use one, it's just interesting.
Would this mean that any game on Steam would work on a MAC? Not that I use one, it's just interesting.
No, not at all. It just means that Steam would be open to publishing games that run on the Mac platform.
And it will let people talk to their steam friends etc without having to boot to windows just to do it.
I wonder if steam games will work on a mac then, probably not though.
I wish they made a client for iPhone, so you could chat with friends, check your stats, etc.
Interesting....
Also, if they're going to support Mac then they'll probably work on a Linux version also, as Mac is a lot more similar to Linux than Windows is. I just keep my hope up!
Gogo datamining!
Wish they did this for linux
I wish they made a client for iPhone, so you could chat with friends, check your stats, etc.
why would "stats" change without you even there to play
This must be why they're switching to webkit for the new UI. It all makes sense now. There's native games for mac, and then there's cider games. Cider allows you to Windows games on Macs via a WINE wrapper (I'm pretty sure that's what it is). Note that EA has been doing this since 2008 with Spore (that's why some game boxes from EA say Mac/Windows on them).
Linux binaries were found in Left 4 Dead on release, but nothing happened between last year and now. I highly doubt a Mac OS X client will come any time soon.
This should be interesting. Even if I can just talk to my Steam friends on my Mac, I'm all for it.
Yeah, an Itouch/phone app to chat with your friends would be nice.
But mac has no game
Well, Postal 3 is Windows/Mac/Linux and it's running on Source...
This push for the mac seems to be an effort to fill the void that has been caused by all the restrictions on apple store's part, (bikini's anyone). If steam becomes a competitor to the app store based more on a the free market then steam could take a huge chunk from apple. However, apple shuts down any third party store that sells iphone apps and it will be the same for ipad, on the other hand eventually some sort of GUI or interface will transfer over to all mac products, (the ipad as keyboard that doubles as a docking station). But I haven't heard anyone mention that perhaps steam is also looking to be on the windows 7 phone. And if there are Linux binaries in the future, then it might be on the android as well. Still, it's speculation on my end and just having steam on the max osx would be profitable enough.
I doubt Steam will ever offically be on any phone for the simple reason there's very little incentive to spent time making it for it, the steam messanger doesn't make them money and steam aren't mobile phone game makers so there's little reason to do so. Still Mac and Linux are in with a chance.
It looks like it was changed, but previously when you clicked on a non-steam mod, the game info said something like "this game is not available on your platform.
For those saying about an iphone client. http://gearsapp.com/marketing/secret/
For those saying about an iphone client. http://gearsapp.com/marketing/secret/
Chat on the go, Coming soon.
Why the dumbs? I know Windows games don't automatically work on MACs but maybe steam is including a WINE wrapper for most to work.

Because OSX has no 'app' store. No company would ever launch a competing app store for the iPhone because they would be subject to all kinds of legal action.
For those saying about an iphone client. http://gearsapp.com/marketing/secret/
If you go to the main page, it's just a app that streamlines everything you can do with steam in a web browser. Also the page suggested that chat was "coming soon" was posted 82 days ago.
What would be awesome. They would quite easily conquer the mac gaming market by selling games that are mac compatible over steam.
Guys shutup! It might be able to play peggle :downs:
valve wtf are you doing?!
But this means that we won't be able to say that macs can't play games :ohdear:
I think it is very dumb to jump to a conclusion that STEAM will be coming to OS X simply because the OS X version of the minimize, maximize, and close buttons are in there. It is highly possible that it is part of a Mac OS X skin for steam [editline]04:11PM[/editline] ninjad
